Back on the road (finally). Pics

At long last, my 77 S is back on the road. This is the first time my car (affectionately known as Lazarus) has been on all fours since I got black-flagged at Black Hawk for a "strange noise" that turned out to be at least two pulled head studs. That was September, 2003!

It's not special, and no outrageous mods, but I thought I'd share my celebration with you. 77 S with SC flares and 964 decklid and wing. Fresh 2.7 with up dated fan, back dated exhaust, MFI heat exchangers with black ceramic coating, smog and A/C delete. Fuchs 7s and 8s by Al Reed. Other than a little powder coating here and there Laz is a bling-free zone.

I was looking for pics of this car a few weeks ago. Classic in black with the polished fuchs.

Just came in from polishing my fuchs a few minutes ago, thanks for the inspiration.

Nonsense! All 911s are special. Lazurus is a beaut, uh I mean handsome one.
Thanks for sharing.

Really beautiful...the lack of bling is the exact reason less can be more.

That is probably the nicest looking 77 I have ever seen. Is the fan powder coated? What color?

Black powder coated SSI - You gotta post a photo of that.

Congratulations on getting it back on the road.

Thanks!

Actually the fan was stripped and scrubbed and then powder coated with clear by Souk at MotoMotions. It is a light magnesium green. I agree - very cool and unusual color. Best of all, when the PC eventually chips, it shouldn't show too bad.

I'll try to find a photo of the heat exchangers. I really like the look with the black but chose it for a more practical reason. The silver polished look is expensive!

Nice Ray!

Is the 'track' pic at the Norway cart track? that looks familiar.

Yes, Bernie. Kevin (KTL) snapped that one for me. It's one of my favorites.

Don, I guess I don't have any really good photos of the headers. These two are the best - and they are accidental. Anyway, hopefully you can see that they are a solid semi-gloss black. They were coated inside each tube for heat transfer purposes, and on the outside of the heat boxes for corrosion protection.

77s RULE!

OK...maybe they don't really rule rule...but they can be a lot better than many people think.

Cool....Nice looking shop too.

I just bought some used headers and was simply planning to paint them flat black. After seeing this I have a couple of questions. 1) What does it cost to do your heat exchangers? 2)Do you powder coat the muffler too? 3) Same powder coat on the fan shroud and engine tin?

Thanks again,

Don

Finally! How many times have you washed and waxed it Ray? Really, I'm glad you're back on the road.

I think your headers looked like this:

(Edit: pics didn't link..see next post)

Our rate for coating vary a bit depending on size and theme, but figure a set of early headers ceramic coated for about $220, and the fan and shroud for about $100.

Me Likey! Sometimes I get "coupe envy." Love that 911 roofline. Congrats, she's a beauty.

Ray,
I can't quite tell: is the rear window trim deleted or black? My trim was bacly installed and has pulled up in the top center. I've considered removing it, but wasn't sure how it would look.
If yours is deleted, do you have any closer-up pics?

Thanks,

Don, the fan and housing and all the engine tin were done by Souk - see his post above. They are powder coated gloss black as were the back dated heat ducts. The fan was powder coated clear over polished magnesium.

The headers are not powder coated. They were coated with ceramic - the process is sometimes genericaly referred to as "jet coating." The ceramic can be applied in a couple different colors. It is often applied in silver and then polished to look like chrome. It is available in flat or matte black as shown in Souk's photo above, or semi-gloss like mine. It could also be fully polished to a "black chrome" finish. The ceramic is applied to the inside diameter of the header pipes for the full length, as well as to the outside of the heater boxes. Souk's price quote is extremely competitive for this process. I'm very happy with his work on my headers.

Dave, all my window trim is black. The side window frames were black coated and the front and rear seal trims were replaced with new black pieces. I'll shoot a close-up of the rear window metal trim this weekend.
