Mine is stupidity proven.
After reading and studying and lurking around here for more than a year getting ready for a clean car with a full PPI, I ran into my ex wifes new husband who is a car salesman by the way. He tells me he is selling a wonderful Carrera 3.2 for a friend that supposedly is a very conscientious and honest person. I went to his Hyundai center and there it was. Looking like my dream. All my precautions went out the window and I bought right of that day. No PPI, no nothing. By shere draw of a luck I have had the car for almost a year and so far it actually is wonderful with nothing gone wrong so far.. Lucky moron..

I bought my '76 911 (with the dreaded 2.7!!) without a PPI. This was in the "pre-internet" days, so access to information was not as easy as it is now. The only things on the car that have actually worn out and needed replacing were the original warm up regulator, the brake master cylinder and a rear wheel bearing. Of course, never one to leave well enough alone, I have "modified" alot of stuff. :>)
I have driven the bejeezus out of the car for almost 12 years now and every time I get in it, I reaffirm to myself that I will never sell it! Mike

Got very lucky (I think) didn't know about Pelican and hadn't thought of a PPI. Didn't even know it was an ROW until after I bought it. Impulse buy. Didn't know it was supposed to have tools, an air compressor or other things (it didn't). I knew the A/C sucked, I just didn't know this one didn't come with A/C from the factory and that it was added on. Still dealing with that. Owned for the past two years, and 15k miles and the worst so far was replacing the brake pads, the oil return tubes and still ******* around with the A/C and dash ventilation system to try and improve it.

Once the kids were in high school and we thought we could afford it we started looking for a British project car. Stopped to see a TR8, drove a ’71 Targa just because, bought it on the spot! 4K hole shot, banged 2nd, same with 3rd… sold! Actually costs less than the TR8 but a lot more car for the $$. Entered a Rally with the local PCA the next day with temp tags, got 2nd place. We’ve had 8 or 10 cars since, several track cars in the mix, never looked back!

About a week before Christmas a few years ago I was working in my office and got a call from a truck driver who was parked outside my building and wanted me to sign for a delivery. I told him to bring the package up to my office on the third floor and I'd sign for it. He laughed and said he didn't think it would fit in the elevator.
When I left the building, I saw the guy driving a silver 911 off the transport truck. The car was a gift from my best friend. I was with him when he bought it new. Guess he remembered how much I loved the car.

I was asked years ago if I could rebuild a Porsche 911 engine....I had built many VW engines at that time.
So...being young and ignorant (cocky) I said no problem and went ahead. Worst possible thing happened....it ran like gangbusters...and it was a 2.7 too!! Got the reputation of being a P-car guru....(un-earned I admit) Built 2 more from the ground up and in the interim...got the itch for my own. Testing these things is infectious. So....at long last I found the one I wanted....a 69S 2.0L with MFI....rough shape....not running for 10 years or more. Unfortunately...I believed in my own reputation...so the resto continues....the $$ flow slowly but steadily....the itch is still there....I am DOOMED....!! LOL Owning one of these cars is a priviledge....one not to be taken lightly....sort of like having your own religion....you must make regular sacrifices...money and time. I hope I make it to P-car heaven....I really am doing penance. Slippery slope.... Bob

First car initiated a marital soap opera of epic proportions, played out here in living black and white (even though the car was Venetian blue). Sold it after a brief period of ownership.
Second car was even nicer than the first. Got whacked by concrete, turning into a track car...me turning into a track junkie. Marital soap opera quieter but now is in the courts. That would be the short story. Now ask motion about his ring... |

I got mad at my boss... quit my job after 19 years, drove a company
car. Had to turn in car in three days. Wanted a car that I could drive for free till I could get new job with company car. I read that if you bought a used Porsche you could sell it for what you paid for it. I found an 83SC, bought it on the spot the day before I had to turn in company car. Never drove a Porsche or knew anything about them. Got on the internet did a search for Porsche and saw Pelicanparts. I live in Louisiana, the state bird is the Pelican... Pelicanparts must be a local company ! Thanks to Pelicanparts I now know that there are Pelicans in California also ! The 83SC was Guards Red... I'd quit my job, bought a Porsche.... can you say mid-life crisis ?? Best thing I ever did ! Good Luck Chuck |

Grew up in or around aircooleds - bugs, busses, 356, 912 - and started dreaming of owning a 911 when I saw the early 911s when I was a kid.
Fast forward - once my own kids got to be around 10 years old (and me in mid 40s) I said one day, gosh dammit, it's time I do something for me me me. Found a few extra coins in my pocket, searched for a few months and found a venetian blue 87 in great shape. PPI was great too. Now lovin' every minute of it. Has never failed me or even burped in 10k miles. Just wish PPIs could judge oil consumption. Even though she runs smooth and pulls strong, I bet I'm looking at an eventual top end rebuild. Oh well, saving up for that. In the meantime, zoom zoom!

my dream car since i was old enough to buy slot cars, and matchbox's.
i had a hot 1st date with a ballet girl. my stepdad (he was actually just a family friend at the time) felt that my beater jeep was not up to par. so he tossed me the keys to his barely driven 1975 911S targa. i still remember how that car reved. it reminded me of a motorcycle. i drove across town, picked up heather, and we had a blast. taking her home, a truck dropped a 4x8 piece of sheetmetal. it floated up in front of us, two choices; floor it, or brake. i chose go. i was hooked ever since. 10 years later, my stepdad gives me the car for free. hooked me bigtime into 911's and the wrenching. so much i bought another 81SC, and gave/loaned the 75 to my bro. just cuz i love him, and i dont have a two car garage. i will get that car back one day. then there will be TWO.
