HISTORIC HILLCLIMB pre 1980

i have a 1979 sc with a 1984 3.2 carrera engine. i am trying to enter into a historic hill climb in which the car has to be made in 1979 or before.because of this there is concern about the age of my engine. i have been advised to find out if the 3.2 engine was in production in any other porsche during 1979 or before. i know there was a 3.3 turbo previous to 1979 but does anyone know if it used the same block as my 3.2?
any help would be appreciated
cheers,
tim

It uses the same crank and rods, but the case is different.

The last SC crank cases ('83) were the same as all the Carrera 3.2s and '83 on 3.3 turbo crank case. So no question you could argue the 3.2 case is not a model change for an SC.

The later Carrera 3.2 used the 74.4 crank and rods from the 3.3 Turbo, that was produced from '78 to '89 I think.

Earliest 74.4 crank cases were the 930/60 series. from '78/ '82.

If they are leaving the decision open to "was the case used" I'd argue yes. If the decision is based on "was there another 3.2 in production in '79" then the answer is no.

I have a similar problem with my '79 with a '95 3.6. If there is a doubt (and I don't think there is) run for time only and not for a trophy or record. Historiscs are suppose to be for fun!

No doubt if it is a serious group of competitors someone will show up with one of these. It has no visual differences that will tell you it is not stock 3.0 SC engine.

3.4 Big bore CIS engine built on a '79 3.0 case. This engine will thump a stock '95 3.6 on a short steep hill climb.

258 crank @ 6100rpm
251 crank @ 4100

Still gonna be great fun if you get to run!
