Help Diagnose engine noise
 

The car is a '77 911 with a 2.7 cis. It has sat unstarted for approx 9 months while being restored. Yesterday I added oil (restoration included carrera cooler upgrade so oil was drained). I charged the battery and turned the key. It cranks just fine but as it was trying to start it backfired a couple times. Nothing real big, sounded more like unburned fuel in the exhaust pipes. Once it started I notice a very pronounced squeak. I removed the a/c belt and smog pump to eliminate that possible source. It sounds very much like a valve. But my question would be "What in sitting for some time and what in trying to start it as I did would cause a bent valve"?
Second question would be, should I start it and let it run to warm it up and get oil through out the sytem in the hopes of it being a dry rocker and not a valve.

Yes, I think you should start it up and let it warm up to operating temps. The squeak may be as simple as an old fan belt ... perhaps adjusted a bit too tight! If you have less than 1/2" 'give' at midpoint between alternator and crank pulley ... put another spacer under the outer pulley half!
