Uh... Where Does This Hose Go?

When I started my first engine dropabout 2 weeks ago, I had a helper from the forum here disconnect some of the bits on the left side. Now that I am getting ready to reattach everything, I realized I have one unidentified hose. I don't know what this one is, or where it should go. It appears to run along the back of the motor from the left side, to where it is currently dangling on the right.

What is it? Where should it be connected to?

I'm not quite sure, but it looks like a vacuum hose. It may likely go to your cruise control acutator. Is there an open nipple at the base of it?

Good question. I didn't see one when I was looking around in there last night. That doesn't mean there isn't one there, though.

There should be a hose nipple that will be very close to where that hose is positioned when the engine is reinstalled.

Yes, it is to the brake booster. It will connect to a small plastic fitting that is stick into a hose coming out of the bottom/side of the air box. Inspect it well, those plastic fittings are known to cause vacuum leaks.

OK guys... I know this is silly, but I'm having far too much trouble with this one. After a multi-week downtime, the car sholud be ready to run... except for the placement of this hose.

Again, this one sticks out from a cylindrical part on the far right side of the motor (brake booster?), wraps around underneath & behind the CIS, & pops out of a bundle of a couple of hoses as you see in my first picture. I can usually spot a loose nipple from a mile away, but I just can't find a home for this thing.

The hose highlighted by oneblueyedog, running left to right in the picture, does split (Y) just to the left of the area he spotlighted. Unfortunatly, both ends of the Y are occupied, indicating that either isn't the home for this hose or I installed something very wrong.

So... how am I missing this? Anyone have a diagram hidden somewhere, or want to point me to a Pelican part number so I can check it out on the exploded parts diagrams?

I really want to drive me 911 again...

I don't have an SC in front of me so I'm taking an educated guess at this: Since it's the brake booster line it needs a good vacuum source so it's probably connected to the throttle body or the air box after the throttle body.

Ahh ok, like John said, It the brake booster vacuum line. goes to the left side of the air box there should be a metal tube sticking out that it slips onto to. I'm puzzled over the brass tubing that swings around the back of the air box?

Well, I just came home at lunch for another look, and I'm still at a loss. I can find two potential connections on the left side of the airbox; one is the aforementioned connection that splits into a Y, and the other is farther to the rear and a bit higher. Both of those have something already attached to them, and have are of much greater diameter than the hose in question.

The only things I can find connecting near the size of this hose are a pair of lines going to the top of cylinder 2 (I think), and one near the base of the distributor.

I guess I'm going to need someone to draw me a picture with a big neon arrow pointing where this goes.

FYI, the brass tubing that swings around the back of the air box comes from the bottom branch of the Y after the connection oneblueyedog pointed out earlier, and seems to terminate in a right-angle fixture near the top behind the airbox.

Bingo. After all of that, it turns out this hose was indeed to the cruise control servo. I missed it at first, because 1) there was already a vacuum hose connected to the servo, and 2) the nipple for this little hose was obscured from view by the larger hose already attached.

If I understand correctly, the small hose (I had trouble with) is connected to the back of the throttle body at a T-joint, and provides vacuum to the servo. The larger hose leaves the engine bay heading toward the front of the car, and may be used just for venting.

For those of you who thought this was attached to the brake booster, you were close. In fact, I think you may have been thinking of one of the larger vacuum hoses nearby, that does indeed connect to the side of the airbox.
