Mid America Motorworks?

Has anybody ever heard of these guys? I never have, and I've owned a Porsche for the last 22 years? I just received their catalog today and it seems complete? I am a staunch Pelican supporter, but a paper catalog is a nice supplement to an on-line source.

Wayne - Ever consider a catalog? I know it would probably increase your cost, so proably not a good idea! We'll "shop" from the other guys catalogs and buy from you!

Yep..was Tweeks. They revamped things this past year and their prices are better than they have been, but I'd rather buy from Pelican when I need stuff that I can't find locally.

As I understand it, most everything they sell is *not* OEM, which is a big deal to me.

Actually they brought out Tweeks. They still call it Tweekfest, but I think they will eventually change that.

They also sell Corvette parts and VW air cooled parts. Located in Beautiful Effingham, Illinois

Makes for good bathroom reading. Bring a pen, circle everything you want, then find it cheaper at Pelican. Saves both you and Wayne money doing so.

FWIW, I needed a 3-block fuse holder for my 911. Called them and ordered one, their catalog said $15.99. After I said yes, the clerk said it's 19.99, the price had gone up. Ok, maybe so, but I said the catalog said 15.99 not 19.99. Well he said, the new price will be shown in the new catalog. Well, the new catalog arrived; price $15.99. Im not a big fan of any bait-switch, and if it was something of real cost, I would have told them to take a hike.

I don't know, somehow "Mamfest" doesn't have the same ring to it. Unless the Mam stands for mammaries.

They did the same thing to me but with a third brake light. The catalog said it was $175 but when I placed the order it went up to $195. I cancelled the order.

Its also hard dealing with someone that does not know what you are talking about - mostly just order takers with no real automotive knowledge.

They have changed their get-together to: Funfest for Porsche. I've taken my son to 2 of the last 3 annual gatherings. Nice to see about 200 Porsches altogether here in the Midwest. They attract cars from KS, MO, IA, IL, IN and OH judging by the plates. We saw our first C-GT there last summer, also rare models from a private collection. Suncoast Porsche is usually there with the latest models on display, and for test driving. After 4pm, they lead us on a drive thru the countryside about 30 - 40 miles on 2 lane blacktops, then stop at a place to taste wine or get ice cream. Last year it was to see LeMans, the movie. Everything is free, except your lunch and sodas. Mike Yager is the owner's name, and he is nice to give back to his customers. Also caters to VW, BMW and Corvette owners in separate catalogues and Funfests.
Its hard to see a variety of P-cars where we live, so for no other reason than that, I appreciate his efforts with the get-togethers.
I've not had the price difference problems some mention, but agree putting out a catalog is expensive, probably having an effect on his prices.

I stopped in there on a business trip once, and it was worth while. Bought some stuff while I was there, but haven't ordered anything or gone back. While I was there Mike Yager walked through the museum and sales counter area and seemed nice enough. He gave me a funny look initially 'cuse I was hanging around like I wasn't a customer. Then he smiled and said hello. Of course there happened to be a cute girl waiting on me, and we were the only ones there...I guess that would make me wonder what was going on too if I were Yager.

I'd say the guy is a car guy (check out the museum and FunFest) and he does his share of keeping the hobby alive and strong. We can't fault the guy for wanting to make a living at it. And fluctuations in the US dollars make it hard to ensure the printed catalogs follow the trend.

Wayne has a nice online catalog that seems to be easier to update prices, and he also provides us a place to hang out. So we have some loyalties to Pelican, but we can't "diss" the other guys out there.

I think they are making strides to meet the demands of the most demanding customers. It's not a perfect world, and certainly it's not an easy world..retail.

Funfest it is, as others have stated. Yager is nice enough, the prices for Mid America are still on the high side. IMHO it is because a lot of his products are purchased at or above wholesale then marked up. If he ever gets the products at great prices, then all will need to be worried. He pretty much owns the Corvette scene. The P- cars that are in the Museum, a lot of them anyway, belong to Mr. Ingram, Glaxo-Smith-Kline CEO.
The Carrera GT that was there last year was on loan from PCNA after the car was at Rennsport Reunion II in Florida. Mr. Ingram has some good connections.

Yager is also building a race track with full amenities on the Mid America grounds. The Funfest event's have been great to go to. He offers pretty much all for free, with a swap meet (Lil weak) to exchange parts with other P-Car fans. He does a nice car show with some nice hardware for the winner.
All and all I would say they run funfest extremely well.
We have gone every year he has it. It's over a weekend.

At the previous Tweeks Fest in Indy, other vendors were able to rent space and sell to the participants, but at the current Fun Fest only non-commercial vendors are able to rent space and sell use PORSCHE parts.

I like the old Tweek Fest swap meet better.

For what it's worth--it and a buck will get you a cup of coffee--I'm due to give a presentation on my "gold-plated Porsche" at this year's Funfest. They were actually going to ship the car out to Illinois, but it turns out it's going to be halfway through a bunch of fiberglass bodywork and front oil cooler installation, so they're going to ship just me (and my wife) instead.
