decelerator valve
I have a 1977 911s, 2.7 cis. I believe I am having a decel valve problem. What vacuum lines are connected to it? Can I bypass it to determine that it may be faulty? My engine seems to be surging when accelerating. The revs will stay high in between gear shifting, but not always. Removing the small line off the top seems to make no difference nor does raising or lowering the stem going into the bell with the adjustment screw.

The linkage has been cleaned in the past and adjusted for maximum movement/acceleration

If bypassing the decel valve has no effect, then you are still probably dealing with a sticky linkage...

The linkage has been cleaned and adjusted for maximum motion/acceleration. That was one of the first things that I looked into was to see if the linkage was sticking.

I haven't bypassed the valve yet. Can I do that I guess is the question.

I just went out to the garage and rechecked the linkage. There might have been some drag on it so I cleaned and oiled it up. In the morning I will fire it up to see if it has made any difference. Thank you IANC.

You can try disconnecting the top line (which you have already done) plugging it, and then reattaching it. Or try plugging both the line and the stem.
Also, JW has recommended pulling the line from the side of the WUR on 76 and 77s only. This may help. You may have other vacuum leaks, like around the injectors, the airbox, popoff valve, and AAR. Or your sensor plate/plunger may be sticking.
