				 | Questions as New Owner of '85 Targa
I researched quite a lot before purchasing an '85 Targa. I seemed to miss a few elementary things though and have not found an Owner's Manual as of yet. Maybe someone can help me out. -What does the horizonatal rocker switch under the dashboard lip just above the ignition switch do? -What is the little red light with the circle surrounded by a dashed circle by the seat belt and parking brake mean? -Is that the windshield washer fluid filler under the small door with the fuel fill? -Is there no oil dipstick? The oil level gauge seeems to go up and down as I drive. That does not seem to be reliable. Thanks, | ||

1 - operates the side veiw mirrors, to the right the right mirror and left to the left controlled by the toggle on the drivers door cap. 2 - I have no idea - sorry 3 - Yes 4 - Dipstick is located in the oil filler neck inside the engine compartment. Remove the filler cap and you'll see it. I hope. The oil level indicator can flucuate, just check the oil level with the dipstick at normal operating temperature on level ground with the engine running. Once you get used to checking the oil you'll be more confortable reading the oil level indicator gauge. Ambient temperature does have an effect. Welcome to the family.

			2. That is generally a signal from wear sensors on the front brake pads...but your car is way too new for me, maybe someone else will chime in.

#2... That light is a brake pad wear sensor for all four wheels. Each wheel in the '85 has a wear sensor and when the pad wears down to hit that sensor, regardless of the wheel, that light should come on...

... unless you've bought performance track pads without the sensor cut-outs, in which case the sensor light will never come on because the sensors are zip-tied to the strut housing/trailing arm. BTW, the oil level gauge is only reads true when the car is at temp, idling, and on level ground.

I bought myself a new 914 when I got out of college but have always kicked myself for not spending the extra $ 1500.00 for that 911T. Now I just have to figure out how to post a picture.
