Instaling a Oil Tank into a 912 66

OK... SO the inevitable day came...... I miss my SC.. But I love the 912... SO.. I decited to, SIX-IT..

I saw a few posts that were asking about the oil tank location and I too was looking for that same thing... Fortunatly the factory provided me with a good start...

First I striped all the fire wall insulation off of the car.

Now I took my tank and laid it on the Floor of the garage. I took construction paper and traced the PORTS and screw locations to mount the tank. (I did this with the tank upside down ontop of the paper and got it as close as I could. ..... lost that pic)

After cutting out the oil tank Paper template .. "OH ps.. I learned how to do this in kindergarden....lol" I transposed the pattern to the car, on the original Stamps that were never cut out.

Its kinda guess work at this point I wish I would have had a 911 to take a template off of... I almost chickend out and put the 912 motor back in..... What the hell CUT IT UP>>>

A lot of drilling, and tin snips, and I have the holes.... I would have used the plazma cutter.. But anyone can do it this way.

I test fitted the tank.....

I trimed it a little too much on the oil filter port... SO take it SLOW....... I Will look for a section to replace the pannel now...lol more work.. But in the mean time here is the final product.....

Well thanks for looking I am going to upload some more pics of my conversion comming soon.....
Next I am going to install the engine and Fab up my Motor mounts. .... Thanks Diesel8@cox.net

Ah- slipping that engine in should be a snap! What else are you working on with your ride? brakes? suspension? Do you have any experience with the 901 gearing? Is your transaxle a 4 speed or 5?

As for my project- for now I'm sticking with the cheap, easy stuff- The paint is in pretty good shape- the guy I got the car from had gone a long ways towards the project, but had to abandon it quickly in favor of a real-estate investment (and let me have the car for only $2k)

I stripped out most of the insulation (checking for rust- amazingly found almost none) and replaced it with two coats of "Lizard Skin" and two more layers of a dynamat-like material I found on ebay... I also reinforced the B-pillars for shoulder belts, a new headliner is in place, I've successfully restored the dash to virtually new condition, I'm replacing all the rubber around the glass, I just finished fabricating mounts for a set of '87 carrera leather seats, I'm replacing the e-brake setup with one from a later car to move the heater control to within a normal human's reach, I have post-'74 door pockets to install, I've got a 23mm master cylinder ready to drop in (I'd like to follow that up with newer brakes as well, but that'll have to happen later.)

My engine has a couple of pulled head studs that I need to deal with, and I also need to check the valve guide clearances, but I haven't had the cash to do a full and proper rebuild so I've put that off for now. it's killing me!

What ever you want will fit. Go for it . I picked up an SC complete front suspension for $400 and bolted the thing right in. Then after asking everyone how to put vented rear brakes wihout putting in the unobtainable "S"(I will kik any of there ass by the way) I made my own adapters ( which I should market by the way) and vaavoom the SC rear brakes fit. Upgrade the master cylinder , throw in someones throw away SC torsion bars, try to find some adjustable spring plates and buy a cooler from Elephant racing and some of those poly bronze bushings and with the 2.7 built to RS spec you can go and Kick some serious ass
