Why not Boge ?
Gentlemen,
If you get tired of my relentless newbie questions and crappy English language - please just tell me ! Just that I am totally lost with my hands but I would just love to learn and I am committed to at least do the basics in Wayne's 101 projects. Read it back to back as night lectures. So far, and with great pride and your help, I have successfully covered the chapters of jacking up your car and oil change ! Now for the next question: I have decided to take on a real challenge. Well I thought at least 50 % of it. Namely changing the rear shocks. The front looks a bit to much for the moment. Everybody seem to pick Bistein but I would like to replace the original with new Boge. I should experience improvement in ride quality even with Boge, right ? I donīt race. I read you recommend changing all four but would it be OK to leave the front till I have built up a confidence to change them to ? Sorry for the long post, just felt I needed explain all my basic questions. Thanks a lot ! |
Nothing wrong with Boge, perfectly good pedestrian shocks. Porsche liked them enough to make them standard equipment.

Mid range....gud like Volvos....not sexy.

Replacing the rear shocks is very simple.......for that matter so is replacing the front strut inserts. I just replaced mine about a month ago. I could probably do the fronts in about an hour and the rear in 1/2 hour, both are very basic mechanical tasks.
Have some fun....go for it ...what you learn will be priceless. |
I replaced my Bilsteins with Boge's in front for the same reasons, got lazy, decieded to leave the rear 'steins in since they seem a bit worn and soft enough now.

May I ask why you are considering Boges?
Bilsteins are better AND cheeper than Boge (www.mittelmotor.de as both Markus and I are in Sweden). |
Hey Magnus,
At Pelican Parts the Boge seems half the price of Bilstein. Wrong ? Also I would like to go original. Perhaps a mistake ? Are they as easy to fit regardless of brand ? Bewildered.. |
If a softer more comfortable ride is what you value with acceptable handling performance then Boge's are for you. They work for me too.

Quote:
A Boge rear at pelican is $90.4 -> ~820 SEK A Bilstein rear at mittelmotor 111 ~ 1180 SEK Add the shipping difference to that and the Bilstein is perhaps a little cheaper from pelican. From mittelmotor Bilstein is cheaper than Boge (when I last checked). Original is good in my book but performance enhancements are good to. To Wayne and Pelican Parts: I am sorry to speak against buying from you. But if you live in Europe and Sweden the tax is killing (an extra 30% on total order value inclusive shipping) you when ordering from outside EU. |
Alright, thanks for all your input !
Still confused, but on a higher level... The best way I can put it : I want the ride to be tight but not stiff... eahh, not wait thats not what I mean..hmmm  |
