The official Ultimate Taj kruezers thread 2005.
Okay lets form a plan of attack. Lets figure out who is going and from where so we can set up rally points along the way for carravanning. Lets figure out what hotel to invade and set up base camp. Lets list the events we are signed up for so we can coordinate several fronts.

Hi Shawn,
I definately going down for the event. It should be a blast. I sprung for tickets to the Vic Elford event on Thursday, June 2nd. The tentative plan is to hook up with Larry (in Kermit) from Chicago and drive east to meet up with Curt and Jared coming down from MI that afternoon. When are you going down to Dayton? Dave Conklin from Dayton put this hotel info. up on the Early S site. The rate is a group rate for just 4 rooms so if you guys want to stay there maybe we can reserve additional rooms to get this rate. Quality Inn $49.00 a night 937-435-1550 1944 Miamisburg Centerville Rd Dayton OH 45459

Im planning to go from east central Indiana. Its about a 3 hour drive. I dont know a thing about this event, so I just plan to go and see the events and hang out. Could use a roommate or a few to room together. Should be fun. Probably head out on friday am, and return sunday. Keep me posted and we can get together. I dont think my wife will be going, but never say never?

Hi Eric,
If the engine rebuild is done I certainly will. It would be a blast to drive it on Sunday for the 'Fun Run'. If not the Targa will have to do I guess. ![]()

I wll probably be hosting a little BBQ at my house on Sat night for all the early car guys and maybe a few extra. Many of my VW drag racing buddies will be in town the same evening so its a great opportunity for some cross pollenation. Ask Eric what a ride in a low 12 sec VW feels like! LOL
The rooms that Brian posted are very close to my house at a well lit and safe hotel in a nice area of town. It is a motel, so your car will be riht outside your door if you like to check on it. Just use my name for the reservation. The Vic ELford thing will be great! Here is the text that we put together for a little story in the local newspaper. By David Conklin The Taj Ma Garaj in cooperation with Ronald McDonald Charities is thrilled to welcome legendary racing driver Vic Elford to Dayton Ohio on Thursday June 2, 2005. “Quick” Vic Elford is best known for his years spent driving for the Porsche racing teams in the mid to late 60’s and is regarded as one of the most versatile racing drivers who have ever turned a wheel in competition. Vic began his career in 1961 as an amateur road racer and rally driver in England. Within a short period of time, Ford of Europe recognized Vic’s driving prowess and offered him the opportunity to campaign a Ford in International Rally competition for three years. In 1966 Vic signed on with Porsche – a decision that resulted in a relationship that would last until just one year prior to his retirement. Over the next six seasons, Vic would win titles in many different variations of motor racing ranging from International Rally racing to European Endurance racing. This versatility earned Vic a reputation as being fast and successful in any car or racing genre that he chose to compete in. In fact, in 2003 Motor Sport magazine ranked Vic Elford as #4 in their list of the Top 20 greatest all-round drivers of all time, placing him above such household names as A.J. Foyt and Jackie Stewart. Besides proving himself as a world class racing driver, Vic played an instrumental role in the filming of the classic Steve McQueen racing film “LeMans” and was the principle narrator in a second racing film, “The Speed Merchants”. Vic excelled in an era that is recognized as possibly the most exciting, romantic and dangerous era in the history of motor racing. Engine and suspension technology was growing at an incredible rate, yet the science of aerodynamics, tire compounds and driver safety were still in their infancy. Many of the racing cars of the late 60’s and early 70’s created as much or more horsepower potential than found even in today’s modern racing machines. Yet these incredible machines and their drivers did not benefit from the modern racing tires and safety equipment used today. The cars were incredibly unstable and literally hundreds of racing drivers lost their lives during that period. It is this very recipe of excessive horsepower, light weight and questionable driver safety that lead to the development of the Porsche 917 endurance racing car – the car which Vic Elford is probably most famous for taming. In the frighteningly fast Porsche 917LH, Vic became the first person to lap the famous 8.4 mile long LeMan’s circuit in France at an average speed of more than 150 mph reaching a speed of 237 mph on the Mulsanne straight! Vic is purported to say that some of the most frightening moments of his career was during the 24 hour endurance race having to repeat these speeds lap after lap at night and in the rain! While Vic is best known for his accomplishments in European road racing and rally racing, he also competed successfully in other arenas such as Can Am, TransAm, off road events in Africa and even NASCAR. A short list of Vic Elfords accomplishments follows: - 1967 European GT Rally Champion - 1967 British 2-litre Circuit Racing Champion - Winner Targa Florio 1968 - Winner Sebring 12 Hours 1971 - 3 Time Winner Nurburgring 1000kms - 2 Time Winner Nurburgring 500kms - Winner Marathon de la Route - Formula 1 1968-1971 Besides the obvious auto racing talents Vic has always been known as one of the truly nice guys of the sport. During the 24 hours of Le Mans, when a Ferrari crashed in front of him, Vic stopped in an effort to extricate the driver from his burning car. Television cameras caught the action and Vic was named Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite by French President Georges Pompidou for his act of courage and heroism. Fans who have met and spoken with Vic during his extensive travels always express how humble and approachable he is – always willing to share some stories of his adventures and experiences from his racing career. Please join Vic and many local racing enthusiasts for an evening at the Taj Ma Garaj Porsche museum sponsored by Classic Impressions of Centerville OH (www.Racingpilot.com). The evening is strictly limited to 125 tickets, so hurry to reserve your place in history. Open bar and hors d' oeuvres will be served and admission is only a $75.00 donation to the Ronald McDonald charities of Dayton Ohio. For more details and on-line registration, please see www.tajmagaraj.com. The way I see it , its worth $75 just to drink Mr Dixons beer and eat his food! Meeting Vic Elford and seeing the Taj is bonus! Plus, all of you early 911 and 912 guys will have prefered parking in the gated Taj courtyard! Hope to see you all there!

![]() ![]() ![]() Be advised the person I talked with at the hotel was somewhat clueless and it took awhile for him to figure out I was trying to get a room that was part of a group rate. Use Dave's name, that seemed to be the thing that worked finally.

Jerry, the guys buzzing through from Chicago to Detroit (and whomever else cares to join us) can come over for a BBQ at my house. Seems like a good excuse to drink beer and eat red meat one more time.
