3.0 SC EFI conversion question

With all the talk of EFI conversion I have been thinking about doing this on my 83SC. I currently have a functional CIS system but would like to convert to EFI for the following reasons: clean up the engine compartment, increase fuel mileage and performance, have the ability for future upgrades via cams, pistons etc. Having said that I am interested in TBITZ's kit, independant throttle bodies or useing a Carrera intake system. In any of these scenarios I want to use the Megasquirt ECU because it appears to me to be an effective system for both performance and cost. Also being a DIYer I want to try and keep the costs down. I can pick up a Carrera intake system including manifolds, linkage, fuel injectors, fuel rails etc. for a decent price what do the experts here think of that approach? At the present time I am thinking of doing fuel delivery only and then add ignition control later. Any input from those that have gone thru this is appreciated.

I'm a bit biased, but I think you can't go wrong with any of the scenarios. If you truely want to keep costs down, I would think Tbitz's kit is the way to go. That is unless you can pick up a complete Carrera intake system - cheap.

If you a looking for the ultimate flexibility for future upgrades ITB's are the way to go. But cost is definitely an issue. It will run you about $1300 more than Tbitz's kit.

Ignition control shouldn't run you more than a couple hundred over the cost of any of the kits.

I would be more than happy to answer questions regarding my conversion.

I can pick up a Carrera intake manifold, all injectors, fuel rails, throttle body and a few other items for about $500.00, I'm thinking for about an additional 500 to 600 dollars I can purchase a Megasquirt ECU and a harness and basically have a working EFI system, am I off base on this route? What is the down side to this approach? I'm not looking for the ultimate setup but just a good working system.

That sounds about right.

I think you will be really happy with that setup. I can help with the harness and ECU. :D

Go with Mike's harness; that sucker is color coded and labeled. Whatever direction I go, that wiring harness will be tops on my list. I'll probably buy his ECU, too. I suck with a soldering iron...
