track tow hooks for early 911

Anyone have a creative track front tow hook set up?
I have an RS bumper and can't seem to find where the best spot would be with out cutting the bumper.

Don't know how similar an '83 is, but I welded up simple plates with a U-shaped hook on them that bolted on the vertical plane to where the former bumper rams (which you of course wouldn't have) had fastened. They have to protrude through the fiberglass IROC front and RS rear "bumpers" that I have, but I think that's inevitable. Basically, look for where the former bumpers bolted to and think of that as a locator, but you will have to cut slots in the bumpers. If you don't, you're going to be carrying the tow hook so low that it will be cosmetically lovely until the minute you need it, when a track towtruck plus a big greasy rope will trash your nice RS bumpers anyway.

I saw Zeke had a very cool set up with one sticking out of the horn grill. Ask him.

Yes, but a rope making a hard pull from down there up to wherever it's fastened to the towtruck trying to drag you out of a gravel trap is going to ruin any air dam or bumper that has a low front lip. And track apes aren't out there to save your nicely restored pseudo-RS, they're out there to get your POS out of the way so the track can go back to makin' money.

Of course if you're talking about the consequences of having a flat tire on Mulholland, that's a whole other deal.

The thru the horn grill idea will work PROVIDING you reinforce the tub on inside and out (making a sandwich using nuts/bolts and 1/8" steel or aluminum plate works)- otherwise tweaking the frame metal will result

I agree. I was talking about the A-arm plan, though in retrospect I think the poster was considering it as a tie-down location rather than a tow-snatch point.
