Where to locate a CD Player/changer?
 

Hi guys, just wondering if anyone had any clever ideas as to where to locate my Blaupunkt CDC M7 10 disc changer. It is pretty big, will not fit under the seats, will not fit in the smugglers compartment and I really would rather not get rid of it and upgrade to a better unit as it is matched to my Blaupunkt Charleston head which is a gift from my wife and kids..(whom I also do not want to replace).

I am hoping for some insight, I know it will fit in the trunk but drat it all, I already have trouble getting a set of golf clubs in there and a the addition of this relatively bulky changer would not ease that problem at all....

Thoughts...other than just not bothering with any electronic interference in the purity of the Kremer 911 engine music?

I know, I know.....but, taking a modern thing like an iPod and putting it in my prehistoric 1975 911....well, it'd be like riding a horse with a monkey's head....

I don't believe they had CD changers in 1975. How about a nice 8 track?

Seriously, I would go with an in dash CD changer like a plain Nakamichi (I know I butchered the spelling) and then get an IPOD or a Neuros. It is not like you have to install it. You can just thow it in the glove box when your are not using it.

If I didn't have the cash I think I would just suffer with the sweet sound of the boxer engine.

Or buy a Blaupunkt Monte Carlo. Inexpensive, matches the interior, and plays MP3s. I can fit 10 - 12 albums on one burned MP3 disk. More than enough for me in my Carrera - don't want an expensive head unit.

I used to have one bolted to the front trunk area on the side. I also still have two amps bolted on boards, which are bolted to the back wall of the front trunk (against the dash area). Doesn't effect overall storage at all.

In this picture, the changer is out, but you may be able to see the mounting screws on the left side.

I installed my Alpine 6 disc changer in the drivers side door panel of my 993. It barely fits so I guess this won't help your situation. I hate disc changers; they are a PITA. This was the best solution for me as I detested getting out of the car and popping the trunk 'just' to listen to a new CD. Now, I still have to fumble with the disc cassette, but at least I don't have to get out of the car.
The only down side is the CD skips when you close the door.

I have been in a search for an aftermarket head unit that "looks" like it was installed by the factory. The Monte Carlo looks like it is too modern for a 993 let alone a mid year 2.7.

One of these days I'll run across something.

Well, there's Alpine's latest, just arriving in stores this week, the 9860. It plays DVD's with mp3 files on them, think a mini-iPod on a single disc. It is a bit on the modern zoomie side though.

Likewise, the Kenwood EZ-700SR, however this unit has built in Sirius reception which must be activated with a subscription before the radio will function at all.

These are a few of the sort of retro look you may be after. Dump the disc changer for good, move up to mp3's on a disc. A single CD-R can hold from 4-12 hours of music depending on the bit rate you recorded them at, and a DVD can hold at least six times more music than a CD-R on a single disc.;) :D
