What kind of H-4 is this?

I bought these off the part4sale bbs. They were advertised as just "H-4's." So here is what I get. What kind of deal is this?

Clue: We are looking at almost a sealed beam lamp with it's own lens. I don't think this setup was ever made, do you?

Looks a bit like some 356 pieces.

Check out this car in the classifieds - 1966 912 Rough Project Car - it has the same type of head lights. Possibly pre-69 lights?

Mike, those are 912 lights, AFIK. More like a VW light. Mine (sorry to say) have the upright H4 lens and then the same pattern on the lamp lens as if it could serve behind a clear lens or as a replacement for the sealed beam in the standard 911 light housing.

Maybe that's what they are. Did the seller steal the reflectors and give me this crap? I've had about 3 purchases in a row off the parts bbs that were shaky deals. Of course, not knowing more about what I'm buying puts me at just as much fault.

Oh, and the guy says one ring has a dent or two. They are both total loses. The adjusters are broken as well. He did offer to take them back. Is that where they should go?

Milt,
FWIW, If the seller suggested it, I'd send them back. Did the seller send you pics of the items before you bought? It looks like you are also missing the metal wire clips that keep it in the adjustment ring.

Milt,

You've got a real mis-matched bag....send it back! Appears to be combo of H-4 euro, and standard US, with h-4 7" bulbs...and not in great shape either....!

Milt,

What you have there is a Hella USA-spec sealed-beam assembly for '65 thru '67 911 or 912 [no difference] that has a 7" H4 conversion lamp ... AND the wrong lens [should be unfluted] from a Bosch H4 assembly!

Very BIG on the VW low-rider scene -- those Bosch H4 or H1 lenses fitted to the Hella VW/356/911 assemblies for sealed beams, though the optics are totally messed up!!!

I'm sorta interested in this clear lens. Do I get that at a Vdub shop? I might try to make something cool out of these. Oh, and I have the wire clips. Most of them are good.

Shows to go you that there are some bad apples on the Pelican Parts site. I'm stupid for not checking these out more. I'm stupid for not knowing everything about all things 911 and I'm stupid for trusting someone to tell me if something is trash or not. Can't find the info on who I got them from, so I'm stuck with them.

Might be the end of my buying stuff on the used parts thing. Three bad deals in a row tells me which way the wind blows.

Milt Becker (Zeke),

I learned a long time ago not to get into a stink fight with a skunk, yet I feel that Pelican members deserve a response to your false accusations. To wit:

If you review the transactions that we had via email regarding these H4's, you will be reminded that I have never misrepresented the units whatsoever to you. You were well apprised of their condition, in email text as well as with pictures, which is not what you have misrepresented in the public Pelican forums. They were not represented to be anything but what they are.

I sent you numerous pictures completely detailing them from a variety of perspectives (see emailed pictures). I also, at that time, informed you that I knew very little about them, as I had gotten them in a parts trade from a friend and had not had the time to get around to installing them. I have not claimed to be an expert by any means. You were also apprised that you would need parts to replace some existing ones, such as the ring, adjuster rubbers, etc., hence the lowered price that you requested to allow you to purchase those parts. You claim to be knowledgeable about the lights, admittedly much more so than I.

You indicated that you were happy with them when you received them almost two months ago. In spite of your acceptance, I made a standing offer for you to return the assemblies for a refund if you were unhappy with them (see email). You have been well aware of this standing offer, which you confirmed in your Pelican Tech forum thread. You have chosen to unavail yourself of this option to date.

You have also had my contact information for some two months, which you have used to email me with insults rather than make honest efforts to resolve your apparent new found unhappiness. You have lied to your fellow Pelicans on the Pelican Technical forum and the bulletin board about this in pathetic attempts to manipulate them into following you down a deceitful path, taking advantage of their trust and gullibility. You are well aware of my address and phone number as well as my email, as evidenced on both the Pelican Tech forum, the Pellican bulletin board, and abusive email to me. This information is also available through the very Pelican service that you have been using to propagate your lies. It is certainly no secret.

Rather than fulfil your end of the bargain, you have instead chosen to publicly slander me, personally trash me, attempt to assassinate my character, and otherwise misrepresent our transaction. You have repeatedly lied about our contractual agreement and have mislead several of our Pelican members about the deal. In spite of your patent dishonesty, slick inuendos, and false claims designed to damage my reputation, I remain a man of my word.

What is it that you don't understand about returning the lights? It seems rather straight forward and uncomplicated.

I remain in honor of my original committment to refund your payment for the light assemblies, with several caveats in light of the fact that you have inherently changed the terms of our deal by your public slander and outright misrepresentations. 1) I require that you completely and without reservation retract your misrepresentations, slanderous accusations, blatant lies, and scurilous statements, as well as apologize to your fellow Pelicans for your gross, purposeful, and shameless attempts to mislead them. They are honest folks and deserve better. You have abused the Pelican forums and service to advance your unprofessional agenda; this type of thing is rare, but not unheard of, on Pelican. 2) This standing offer for you to simply return the lights for a refund is almost two months in duration; this is more than fair and reasonable by any measure. At this time, I will consider the offer expired in 5 days, June 21, 2005. The incomplete pics you posted on the Tech forum clearly show that you have been playing with the parts, so reassemble them and return in completely original condition. 3) If further slanderous misrepresentations appear in any formum or form whatsoever, including public slandering, trashing, and lying, as well as personal threats to me by email, you will be considered in default on our agreements. 4) If the above caveats are not complied with, the offer will expire. No further considerations will be made. Further attempts by you to slander and threaten me will be considered harassment.

It is, and always has been, your choice to make a wise, prudent, and responsible decision.

Mike Dalton

Now that we heard the other side of the story lets move this to the off topic forum.
