engine number/vin correlation?

i have some questions, in case any parts of my car (http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/225556-911sc-stolen.html?highlight=stolen) turn up somewhere.

basically, is there any correlation between vin and engine number? is there any way to take my vin and find out what the engine number is? i see from an earlier thread that pointed to http://members.rennlist.com/tweedt/stoddard3.jpg that my engine number would at least be greater than 628 0001 and less than 629 0001. but, if there were any way to find out more, i would have more straws to grasp at.

thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge and experience.

Call PCNA and tell them the situation. Maybe they will shortcut the Kardex process and give you the info over the phone. Usually, the only way is to order the Certificate of Authenticity and finally get the factory build info after many weeks and big $$$.

kardex i am not familiar with. but thanks, that is worth a try. i just never knew if it was somehow derived from the vin or vice versa. right on.
