getting overdue to switch to my summer oil (castrol 20w50) from my winter oil (castrol 10w40), but i haven't put but maybe 2-3k on the car tops since the last change. would you wait and order a new filter even though you have the oil and are ready to change now? would it be heresy to skip changing a filter with so few miles put on it? just wondering what the board thinks..

Not heresy, but for the small price of a filter, change it.
If you're paying more than about $7 for an OEM Mahle oil filter, check ebay.

I second George's opinion. A filter is inexpensive so why not change it all out?

If you can't find a Mahle quickly, just get a K&N from your FLAPS.

The filter’s job is to catch the crap that accumulates in your oil. With so few miles on the car it likely has not been completely warmed up all the time so condensation, blow by etc., etc. accumulation are likely as high or higher than if you put on more miles. If it really is a $$ issue while not change just the filter? On the other hand why not enjoy the car by driving it more? Skimping on oil and filter changes is false economy.

There has to be a P-car shop in Little Rock that carries filters....better off to wait than go halfway on this.
