ignition wires

I was removing my spark plugs while getting ready to do a valve adjustment when I noticed that all of my ignition wires did something I found strange. When I tried to remove them from the spark plug the wire pulled out from the plastic extension that goes through the valve cover and connects to the spark plug. Every wire did this when I pulled on them.

The wires are Belden High Temperature 7mm Metallic Cable 98** and have the following number on them BERU 0 300 413 108.
Is this normal or did the previous owner put on some real cheap wires?

Any help would be useful.

Thanks,
Tim

Sounds like a rewired set of original Beru plug connectors. You should not pull on the wire, as it is sort of "screwed" onto a metal connection at the top of the Beru plug connector.
Generally I have found they can be reused with new wire for many years. As long as youare using metal core wire, not the carbon stuff.

Would OEM wires be better than screwing the BERU spark plug connections back on the Belden wires?

This is what I am using, although mine are a few years old & are tan where these are red:
Clewett Engineering High Performance Ignition Wires
Clewett Engineering High Performance Ignition Wires are 8mm, with a 2 layer silicone jacket, wrapped in a 1200 degree protective sleeve. This Spiral Core, resistor conductor wire provides EMI/RFI suppression for all ignition and engine management systems. The connector ends are even numbered to reduce confusion! These wires are a great choice for either racing or street applications. Available in either Red or Black. Coil Wire and Dielectric Grease included.

I saw those but was worried that they were so much cheaper than the OEM wires. I think I will try a pair.

Thanks.

Do the Clewetts fit into the little wire holders that route them over the engine? I thought I read that they were larger in diameter and the holders must be drilled to fit properly.

I was thinking of buying some Clewetts, but after a search, I read lots of stories of them not working right. They are cheaper ??? but they dont seem to fit the wire looms (too large), and dont click on the plugs well. Do a search.

I installed the clewetts today and they dont fit into the wire holders well at all, they are too thick....I used the top half of the wire holders on one and had to snug the top & bottom together on the other 2.....

I'm not sure I am really happy with the way they look yet, I may go in a re-route them in a day or 2......They did install just fine, no issues with them connecting to the plugs or dist.

The upside is the car runs really well now....

They won't fit standard wire looms, and they are very tight on the plugs. A little silicon solves the tight fit problem and I'm sure if you really wanted looms, they could be had. Maybe somthing for Clewett to consider supplying to stop the complaints.
