964 info needed quick

I came across a trashed 964 tonight. I am going to talk to the guy in the morning. Its a C4. Year unknown. 114,00 miles. Looks like it led a rough life. Front struts missing.

Basically I am after the engine. Are there years to avoid? I vaguely remember that some of the engines in 964s were problematic.

Assuming I have no way of getting a leakdown test on the engine, how much should I offer they guy for the engine and computer? Any other parts I should get?

Anything I am not thinking of?

This was a customer car who has disappeared. The mechanic is looking to get it off the premises.

964 engines make about £2500-3000 over here but that would normally get you a leakdown and a little prodding (maybe some geniune history too) maybe £1500 untested?

The early ears -91 have problems with cylinderhead leaks, changed somwhere in 91. I think you recognize the newwer ones by there plastic intake system, where the early ones had aluminium intakes.

Is this the red 964 up on Northgate? I saw it the other day..I wondered why it was there. Don't forget the seller must have legal right to sell it.

Thats the car. I think don't the guy has a title, and I am certainly not looking to get involved in crime.
