Re. Autocrossing

To make a long story short, I bought an 87 Targa with the intent to use it as a driver and autocrosser. However I find that due to a "moroncycle" accident 25 years ago and the associated (now) paying the price I cannot handle the steering (need p/s) with my left arm only, needing right arm for shifting. So (this is my excuse and I'm sticking to it) I need to sell the really nice Red Targa (shameless plug) and buy a tiptronic 993....(my wife does not read this M/B, and I think that if I tell her she can "sometimes" take the 993 she will agree....
Question is, will I be able to do the autocross in the 993?

I don't see why not. I have done a couple of autocrosses in my wife's 993 w/Tiptronic.

I don't see a problem (or excuse). If you are driving fast (AutoX, Track or Street) you will need both hands on the steering wheel most of the time anyway. In general you shift before the turn or after the turn. I think only in Hollywood you can control a car with one hand on the wheel and one hand shifting. You should have a good time on the track with your 911 and your engine has enough low-end torque to help you around.

I will say that you can for sure AX the 993 Tip, but I have the same Targa as you and once I am in second, that's it. I have not had to shift on a course yet. I suppose there will come a day, but so far, it's all second gear after the first shift.

Good luck either way!

You can autocross anything. You aren't going to win any TTOD trophies with a stock Carrera or a stock 993 anyway. IMO, it's all about having fun and learning to drive your car as fast as possible.
