88'Widebody Tire Fitment
Hi group,
Yes, I know this has probably been discussed a thousand times, but I can't find the answer. Just got a 88 factory widebody, coupe, spoiler delete by the way, with factory fuchs 9's and 7'sx16. the 9's have the factory spacer behind them. My question is, what is the widest tire that will comfortably fit in the rear using the 9's, and who makes it currently. The front is easy, but I am in a quandry about the rear. I realize I can change the wheels to a larger wheel that will enhance the choice of tires, I prefer to use the wheels I have that came on the car. Thanks, please respond to porschepaul@cox.net or call if you like 1-619-507-3822 Paul Davis

I think the stock tire size is 205/55-16 front and 245/45-16 rear; there's a pretty good selection of tires and styles to choose from. See TireRack's "Select Tires by Size" page.

I've run R rated Kumho VR tires in the 225/50/16 and 265/45/16 on those rims. I don't know if they make those sizes in street tires though?
I have a set of Sumitomo 225/50 front and 255/50 on my 7x9s. The rear tire is too tall. Last I checked the rear tire was no longer available. When is your next San Diego PCA event, great group check them out. Saturday I might check out the PCA AX at Qualcomm, join us for the after AX parking lot beer bust. ![]() |
