Litronic Trouble

Litronic headlight on my '99 996 is Kaput. Other one is just fine. This was a retrofit with used factory lights (purchased on Ebay) installed without the litronic wiring harness. Tried replacement of bulb-no go. Is the control unit the likely culprit? Is it replaceable? Call the dealer? Other possibilities?

Additional related questions:

Am I an idiot to buy expensive stuff like this on Ebay?
Am I getting grayer?
Is my wife cheating on me?
Does my girlfriend have the Clap?
Is all matter in the universe really made out of tiny vibrating strings?

Answers please!

Glenn,
Most of us don't know squat about cars as new as your 996, sadly for all of us..

For your other questions: Yes, Yes, No, Yes, Yes...

From what I've read about retro-fitting Litronics/HID's. It's a fantastic modification and well worth the money when done correctly. I believe your problem is the lack of the litronic wiring harness. There have been numerous articles/posts written about this. The Litronic wiring harness compensates for the different ratings of current being sent through the wiring. Sometimes the lack of the correct wiring harness will be minor and cause your lights to sporadically work, but other times it can cause major problems such as frying computers, or in the worst cases, vehicle fires. I suggest you do some homework on this and get it done correctly. For more information, check out www.HIDRetro.com and go to the forums section. A lot of really good information there. Good Luck!

edit-As far as purchasing from E-bay, I don't think it's a bad choice if you know what you're going for, however there has been a number of Litronics stolen from 996's and Boxsters as it's relatively easy for thieves. This may be the reason why yours didn't come with a wiring harness. Just food for thought.

That's just one of the mysteries associated with not having the correct wiring harness. That happens a lot. No real explanation for it. BTW, be wary of SilverC4S if your wife has a sudden "Business trip" to TX lol

Speaking of wiring harness--Glenn, I just asked your wife, to my left, and your girlfriend, to my right, about tiny vibrating strings. The concensus here is that only YOUR matter is made up of tiny strings. Mine is made up of thick rope...
