What to use- clean up alloy wheels
I just had delivered a set of 996 rims for use as track wheels. Not terribly fussed about their appearence, but they need a good cleaning up. What can I use on a natural alloy rim to remove gunk, adhesive residue, general crap from brakes and grease?

I use Simple Green and alot of rinsing with a garden hose...

Simple Green is not a good choice because it is a strong alkyli. It can easily pit or streak your wheels permanently. I would use P21S orange then use an adhesive remover.

I use P21S on my wheels when the brake dust accumulation, particularly on the inner surface of a wheel, has caked on over months, or even years on used wheels.
For ordinary care of a Fuchs wheel, I'd suggest low alkaline soap, even baby shampoo, in plain water then hose it off and apply a high quality wax or vaseline (as Porsche recommends). |
I use Dawn to clean my polished Fuchs and tires.

Clay/detail spray, then any quality wheel cleaner. ie autoglym, mothers, etc.
