Pop-out Window Parts Check?
 

I recently got a set of rear pop-out windows, and I'm curious as to the parts necessary. I've read all the posts on rear quarter windows, and while people have gone over methodology, no one's actually spoken about the hardware needed.

I see the two tabs, which should be inserted into the slots in the B pillar, and affixed with the screws included? I'm having trouble understanding the actual physics here - should there be a hinge at this point?

In addition, should I have another frame that this whole window fits into, or does this simply fit into the opening left when I remove my fixed windows?

Lastly, does anyone know a powdercoater or anodizer that could turn these things black to match the late 80s trim?

Hopefully, this post will help future pop-out windowers by cataloging the parts needed for the project.

Your going to run into a snag right away. The "tabs" are the hinges. You'll find they flex enough to allow the window to open. Where your going to have a problem is where the screws for those tabs are supposed to screw into. It's not in frames intended for fixed windows. It would become very clear if you could look at the frame for an early window. Give me a couple minutes and I'll take a picture of an early car.

This thread seemed to suggest that all coupes have the mounting points, even possibly up through the early 964s? I haven't checked yet, which is obviously the easiest way to resolve the question.

But I think that that's getting ahead of where I am. Several threads mention some sort of trim, possibly a frame into which the window I have would fit? Would that be whatever is left in the window opening after I pull the existing window, or is there another piece that I should have in conjunction with the window itself?

Photos definitely clarify the issue - I'll know what to look for. Thanks for taking the time to take and post them. Hopefully I have the slots, if not, I guess I'll sell the windows. It'd be a shame though.

The unit you have is a complete unit. The only other part that you may need is the "garnish moulding" to replace the one you already have on the car. It is the black trim piece below the window and is screwed to the body. There is a slight difference between the early(bright) and later(black) pieces.

My 78 had the slots and threaded holes in the B-pillars. There were holes in the C-pillars for the latches, but they were not threaded. We put some nut-serts in there and everything bolted right up.

You are missing the trim pieces for the bottom of your window opening and the weather stripping.
