New Starter - Not enough connectors?
 
I bought a new starter for my car and started to install it this morning. When I got the old unit out I realized that it has two large wires going onto one post and two other small wires each going to tabs. When looking at the new unit it has just one large post which I assume are for the two large wires and only one tab for a small wire. What do I do with the extra small wire that needs a extra tab to connect to? Can I connect both small wires together to the one small tab?

Here is a pic of the new and old starter. Notice the new starter is lacking one extra wire tab? What to do?

Go to Radio Shack and get a small packet of terminal spade connectors, they allow you to slip on a adapter that allows 2 wires to hook up on 1 terminal. I had to do the same thing when I replaced the starter on my car.

Simon,

I don't know what model starter your new one is ... but it certainly doesn't look like a Bosch!

Just for the record ... there are two Faston tabs on the SR-68 starter for SCs, and not on earlier or later versions -- for a specific reason! There are two separate sets of contacts inside the solenoid -- to isolate the cold-start circuit from the ignition switch! Though both are Yellow wires ... they are not both connected to Terminal #50 on the ignition switch!

It was found through owner experiences [and mirrored by Pelican experiences] that faults in the cold-start circuit ... relays, Thermo-Time Switches, and loose disconnected wiring could cause failures to start and burned-up ignition switches!
