So, where is this infamous sunroof drain?
Exactly where does this drain start and terminate? My rear driver side floor is getting a little wet from sitting in the parking lot when it is raining out. Not a problem i have had before...
Some pictures would be very helpful. thanks alf

Too tight to get a pic inside the sunroof, but the drainhole begins all the way at the back of the roofline, inside the slot the sunroof slides in, and comes out behind the edge of the engine hood.
Driver's side: ![]() and passenger side: ![]() It can only be seen/reached with the sunroof removed. I would suggest a long, stiff wire of some kind to use to clear it. You might be able to do it from the holes in the pics, from outside the car.

Cool! So if i pour some water in the sunroof lip it should come out that hole. If it does not, how do you clean it?

I'm thinking giant pipe cleaner. Or something like that. Maybe a coat hanger with something on the end of it to push debris out. No matter which way you push the debris, you'll have to remove the sunroof to get to it.

Those are the sunroof drains? Whoah, cool! I've been wondering for like a month and a half what those were!! "Why is this !@#$ed water draining from these funky little holes," I kept wondering. Zoanas, you &^#*ing rock!

There are two more drains:
![]() Look just above and slightly to the the right of the round black fuel filler neck collar. The yellow tube (the white tube crosses over it) descending down in an "s-curve" is one of the front sunroof drains. It runs down inside the the windshield support column ("A" column) and drains behind the front fender mounting fin. There is a matching drain on the front passenger side. We cleaned out the drains with a wire and compressed air; we actually blew out one of the small sunroof mechanism screws from one of the drains. Probably dropped in there some time in the car's past or maybe even at the factory. Cheers, Jim Last edited by Jim Sims; 02-29-2004 at 07:16 AM.. |

Alf,
Heavy gage weed eater line works well to clean the drains.

This is difficult to see in focus but with the removal of the sunroof, you can see the opening in the rear corners.

Don't use any thing like a coat hanger.

Settle down, Dan. It's gonna be just fine. Be prepared for many more little surprises.
Jim, you're gonna have to step it up a notch and put some graphics into your photos. Don, outstanding suggestion. A coat hanger would probably scratch deep enough to remove some paint inside the tunnel. Wouldn't want to deal with rust in there. Alf, I would say you've gotten your money's worth out of this thread. Gratuitous, self-promoting, narcissistic, off-topic photo: ![]()

Spent all my extra cash buying a digital camera with a good macro lense (for those close up shots); no funds for photo shop type software on this computer but maybe I can find some free ware.

Looks like you spent a pretty penny on a ground strap, too.

Somebody beat me to the punch on the white nylon weedeater ( edge trimmer) line. Still be careful...there are ( I think) small rubber type connectors from the roof hard lines to the hard lines of the lower areas of the car. If you "poke" around too much or use too high pressure compressed air...I've heard of these connectors coming off and THEN you'll definately have water in your car !

The rubber hose connectors (two in the front and two in the rear) are there and if rotten or loose are a source of leaks and yes you can disturb them if the cleaning is too vigorous. We replaced them when we redid the headliner. Jim

Sunroof leak through headliner - blocked drain & cable tube flange leaks
Just an FYI & thank you! With care one can avoid having to remove sunroof to fix leaks, using the info in these two threads, namely this one, and this one:
sunroof rear drain holes..leak (images incl) - Pelican Parts Technical BBS Wrote up my experience there as John Walker's comment was very helpful re cable tube flange leaks, which was part of my issue, and it also had the most recent content.
