It's a Baby Fuch....Noooo, it's a cool paperweight!

Hey guys, I've been playing around with my new 3D CAM software to get the hang of it. Compared to 2.5D, 3D is a whole new ballgame. Anyways, just wanted to share.

I took a short video of some of the machining. You can see it here:

Video of CNC'ing the lil baby Fuch

Thanks guys. I don't think I'll be selling them very soon, if at all, I'm not happy with the finish just yet. I'm just using it for learning the programming. If I can get the finish better and the cycle time down I can crank some out if there is an interest.

It is not frosted, that's straight out of the machine. You can see the finish imperfections on the outter ring area. I think I'm getting some chatter.

btw, in case you were wondering, the video is in real time. it's contouring at 100ipm.

KEYCHAIN!!!!! or a spinning version for a slick belt buckle. but really that is slick. how did you come up with all the dimensions, measuring a real wheel by hand or using a laser?

Super neat, Mark! I've been able to do some pretty creative things with 2.5 axis software, but I'd kill to get my hands on true 3D.

Maybe I'm just jealous.

So I'm guessing you used a 1/8 (maybe 3/32) inch ball end mill for the finish passes? You've got to spin one of those pretty fast to avoid chatter at 100ipm. More details, please? What software did you use?

BTW, have you seen this thread?

Can an actual Fuch be made with a CNC?

Again, nice work.

962, I didn't take any measurements, I just found a good picture of one and drew it in 3D. Here is the 3D model:

Fuch Solid Model

Jim, I didn't see that thread before. As usual, everyone's an expert

I am using a 1/8th ball mill spinning at 10k rpms. I'm using OneCNC for the CAM part.

That Fuch is very cool ! Put my name down once you decide to go into production.

I was given a simlar looking Fuch model last Christmas.

It is a pewter miniature made by Autoart models (Part number 49009 : Porsche 1st Generation wheel (Black Spokes)). I know it is also available with a red centre too. Not sure how easy they are to get hold of.

Cheers
