WURts the deal?
Ok, so the cold starting issue is the WUR. It went bad on me right after it poured rain. Related?? Do these things just go all of a sudden like that?
So do i need a brand new one? Are there options? Refurb? Thanks, Nik

Rain has nothing to do with the WUR. A proper fuel pressure check would reveal if your WUR is kaput. Ask your mechanic to check the OHM resistance on the WUR-element for the proper value and, verify that you have power going to the WUR.
If he doesn't know how to do it, go to another place. Shops are very quick in selling new parts but don't guaranty that it solves the problem.

My mechanic doesn't markup the parts he sells me.
But the rain thing is just too much of a cooinsidence. Big down pour and then the WUR doesn't work. Could the rain have faulted the WUR's electrics? I have a multimeter, can I check the OHM resistance myself? Thanks Gunter, Nik

How do you know that the WUR doesn't work?
Get the Bentley SC Repair manual if you really want to work on your 911. It explains so many things with pictures. You'll love it!

Didn't you tell us on another post this is a new WUR?
I think I mentioned to you to get the control pressures and mixture checked because a new WUR will probably be different from your old. Has the mechanic done that?

Yes, for some reason I had it in my head that the WUR was new. I seem to recall seeing it on one of the receipts from my shop. After looking again, it just stated that he had checked the WUR at one point. Anyhow he checked the pressures and mixture.
At this point I'm not too concerned with whether or not my mechanic is right but rather what my options are for replacements. He did mention that they can often be temporarily "fixed" by knocking something on the WUR? But he said, it's temporary and it would be better to just replace it when I can. I'll post on the classifieds here I suppose. Althought it looks like the WUR for my car is specific only to my year! Ah, the joys of Porsche ownership! But damn do I look good pulling up to the wellfare office ![]() Nik

I'm still curious about this. Is is normal for a WUR to just give up overnight? Wouldn't this be the sort of thing that would slowly stop working properly over a few weeks/months? I just find it odd that immediately after a big down pour that it cooincidentally goes bad and the rain has nothing to do with it.
Hmmm. Thanks for listening, Nik.

If the WUR is kaput, your car will start badly but, as the engine warms up, it will run much better. The WUR can be adjusted by "Knocking/adjusting the plug". This procedure is a bit complicated but people with mech. aptitude have successfully done it.
Forget the rain and answer this: Do you have a Bentley SC Repair Manual? Ask your mechanic what the control pressure was on cold-start? Ask your mechanic if there was continuity on the WUR electrical connection; in other words, is the filament in the WUR good? Nik, people here can help you if you give more details/numbers. If you need a replacement, I would advertise on PP for a used WUR. Bentley says it's Bosch # 0 438 140 072 If you buy a new WUR, keep the old one.

What Gunter says is true. The plug on the WUR can be knocked very easily. What is harder is getting it pulled back up if it has been knocked too far. Usually these things go out of spec gradually, but the electrical part can fail anytime. As some of us menioned in one of your other posts, have the guy give you the control pressure figures. If he can't, go somewhere else.
I the meantime, you can check your plug wires by sprying them @ night w/ water while the engine is running and looking for any arcing.

Cool, thanks guys. I'm taking it to get one of the other 30 issues looked at tomorrow and I'll ask him about the control pressures. I do remember him saying that he checked the pressues on the phone. I didn't get numbers though.
Paul, you mean the spark plug/ignition wires? How does this relate? I actually just installed new wires 2 weeks ago. Thanks, Nik
