Becker adaptation
A question for the audio savvy out there. I have an ex-Boxter (not stolen) Becker CDR 23 that I would like to use in my old 911 but of course it includes a theft deterrent system that wants a kiss from the car's CPU, somthing my car does not have. I have to believe that a simple jumper somewhere will enable it, but where? Does anyone know?

Do you mean CDR23?
If so it needs to communicate with a CAN interface in the vehicle in order to function properly. A more popular radio for the older 911's is the CDR 220. It is similar and actually has something the CDR23 doest, it will allow you to add an auxiliary input in the rear. |

There is a plug available from Becker of NA that goes in place of the changer input on the back of the radio. The plug they sell can be configured to be used as a stereo input w/ 2 rca's or a single mono rca for a phone input.
Basically you have to use either the changer or the auxiliary and not both. They can also modify some of the older beckers to accept a miniplug input but that requires sending it in. |

Trikie,
Yes , it's a CDR 23. While a 220 might be more appropriate this is what I have so I'd like to use it if possible. thanks, Phil |

From what I have read, the unit will not work without the computer (CPU?) 'talking' to it.
.... found a link on the Becker Board. max

Yes, this is correct.
Becker Of NA is a great company, they fully support all their old radios. If its got the din connectors in the back, then it will probably accept theri RCA jack. They also have some CAN adapters that will enable a can radio to work without a can bus. RCA Picture, note the ipod under the AC controls. http://www.gilmachine.com/pictures/2005-06-18_Porsche_911_Carrera/pages/IMG_7224.htm CAN bus pics. This radio requires a can bus and is connected with an adapter. http://images.jaimekop.com/2004_11_29_W126_COMAND/ Call up Becker of North America in NJ, they have some smart guys working there and will prob help you order the parts you need.

I am not familiar with a CAN adapter but that would be great news if people wanted to use the cdr23 in the older vehicles.
However I know for a fact that the cdr23 is not currently set up to accept an auxiliary input. Last edited by trickie; 06-28-2005 at 02:40 PM.. |
