First of all thanks to DByers for sending these to me. He picked up a set of door handle pulls from Moss Motors in Cali. The handle portion were a little longer than the feeble pastic handles for the RS panels. So I used the center section from the 4 sets that i have ripped off my door. The center sections always seemed to survive, it was always the plastic part that bolts to the door that seemed to fail. I used the aluminum end pieces with the original plastic centers. Bolt up tp the standard mounting location and are much stronger where they need to be.

Hmm are those Home made then? that looks pretty easy, I always thought the pull (that you keep braking) connected to the latch. Did you home make those?

Can somebody post a pic of a broken one? I'm about to mount these into my '70, but I'm thinking of leaving them off completely because I've heard they're so easily broken! I'd like to see a broken one to make my own analysis.
Thanks!

I didn't keep any of the broken parts....sorry.
Nothing is homemade. The leather straps came with the door panels. I simply combined parts from two different pulls to make the ultimate RS door shutter thingy.....

Can you close the door from the strap as well? I mean...if you pull from the "back"?

You would have to pull from the front.

Aah! For some reason, I thought the strap pulled on the front...where the handle "used" to be...but I must be wrong.
...or is there more than one type? ...never mind, I'll figure it out... ![]()

Doug,
All the "linkage" inside the door is gone. The strap hooks directly to the opening mechanism. Its like the linkage runs outside the door panel and is made of leather instead of steel rods. make sense?

Thrown Hammer you stole my last great car secret. I worked for them 11 years ago and discovered these during inventory. They've been on my car ever since, so I know the work well. MOSS is a good company, its too bad they don't do Porsche.

Dan Byers sent these to me. He used them as-is and put a new hole for the longer handle. I did a little Frankenstiening and used the original centers with the new Aluminum ends. They are working great. I can shut the door now and not feel like I am playing Russian Roulette! Turboman do you happen to know the part #? I threw the bag away.....

Glad they worked out Shawn!
For any one wanting to try this solution, here is the link to Moss Motors website. Part is # is 472-240 (#13 in diagram). These were used on various models of European cars. They are also alot less expensive then their Porsche counter part. Door pull aturboman - Moss Motors is in my backyard so to speak. We might have met at one point when I went to the parts counter back then.

No I don't know the number but they can be found online at Moss' web site. I believe they are early MG/Midget door handles. Good luck.
