Offer for Guard's Red Owners with Black H4's

I recently purchased a set of used H4's from another Pelican with Guard's Red rings (not the extra trim rings, these are the standard assembly rings with the adjuster screws).

I have a black car and was wondering if anyone with a Guard's Red car would be interested in doing a straight swap with me before I take 400 grit sandpaper to what is a nearly perfect set of Guard's Red rings just to paint them black. I know many of you are running the original black primer version, which would be ok, too.

Mine are very good to near excellent. No rock chips or rust, just not concours. The heads on the adjuster screws are a little rounded off, but still functional.

I guess it just bugs me to think I'm going to ruin something that would be desirable to have for another Pelican 911 owner.

I'm in St Louis, Missouri and anyone local would move to the top of the list so we could both see what we're getting before swapping, plus no shipping costs.

Let me know if you're interested.

Craig

Frog eye look in???
I think I might have found you a donor... Just saw this guy posting a link to his photo gallery... I usually hold my negative comments to myself, but couldn't help myself after Thrasher's "FROG EYE" comment
Not sure if his car is a true "Guards Red" though.... If it is, you might be able to convince him that yours are worth some cash with the expensive red chemicals attatched! I have a strong feeling though that his are just primed in a flat black, like mine were when I purchased the H4 kit too... Take a look at the this link...

Wow. This is a hard decision. Trade for red rings or keep the black? I've been thinking intensely. I kind of like the looks of the black primer rings though. It gives the car more contrast I guess. Thrasher, I'm still thinking. My black primered rings do have some paint chips in them. Too hard to decide....

I need new rings for my Guards Red 86. Thrasher, if they are originals and match the color, then I would consider purchasing you a set of black primered new ones and make the trade...this would save me money for a repaint. Please PM if interested.

more pix...

These are a couple of pix of the previous owner's car with the actual H4's mounted. I believe these were taken just prior to my buying the H4's and are representative of the current condition, since I have never mounted them.

Funny, that is the car that gave me the idea for a swap - I almost PM'd him directly, but didn't want to offend.

86 911 - send me some close-ups of the rock chips if you're interested.

I think I'll just keep my black rings on the car. Sorry. You might want to try posting this in the Porsche Parts for Sale forum and see what happens there.

getting out the sandpaper... It's gonna hurt to mess up that pretty guard's red paint, though.

Come out you frog-eyed freaks!

LOL - thanks for the bump. I actually considered putting them on for a while to see how the H4's improved the lighting, but my car, like yours, is all black and wow, would that look "interesting".

PS: She's a beaut - and gives me pause on adding a tail (again)!

yer killin me

Oh, that's a 930, so I don't feel as bad since I have a narrow body Carrera.

The worst was when I was parked next to an '86 black Carrera at the Mid America funfest with the Carrera tail and front spoiler, both of which I'm "lacking"

Here's my rear:

Patrick, that 930 looks awesome! The paint has to be new on it.
Thrasher, I will always love the narrow bodied cars. It looks great the way it is! Anyway, a free bump for you.

edit: Confused members "PatrickB" with "Rarelyl8"

Thrasher were you referring to my ride? Not a 930
Actually it's a '70T, with 930 steel fenders, and correct front & rear spoiler/tail... 2.7 with dual web's & headers..... And it's for sale!

I guess the "turbo" nameplate fooled me. It's hard to believe that beauty is 35!
