Need more specific info, and some answers to some of the questions asked previously about the specifics of the oil "burp".
Is the oil still leaking? Where did it leak from? Where on the right side is the noise? Cam housing? Chain covers? Could it be a ramp or tensioner? Can the noise be described any better? For sure a grind? Like metal on metal? Possibly a broken or bent valve stem? Or the chain is grinding from a bad tensioner or ramp? |
Busted right tensioner? Chain dragging?...or as simple as a busted ramp?
I hope not in either case of course... |
sounds to me like someone took it out and raged on it...too bad...best of luck to you!

Any news?

Finally on the way to Imagineauto I am hopeful it won't be the major catastrophe I first expected. I had never gone down and actually started and listened to the beast. I really was not wanting to hear grinding knashing of teeth type stuff. So the guy that is trasporting it wants me to start it and drive it into the trailer. I get in and start it up. No problem. No weird sounds. WTF? The guy who was so leery of working on it had me expecting the worst. In the 5 minutes I ran it it sounded perfect. So now it is on its way to be checked out. At the worst I'll have one of those K-27S or whatever it is billed installed. Results pending.

That's great news!!!
Keep us posted. I'm sure we're all keeping our fingers crossed for you. It's always nice to find that silver lining in the dark cloud. I've found a couple myself. Jim |
Stephen at Imagine will take care of you. Let us know how it turns out.

This one reads like a novel. Cannot wait to see what is going on.
One thing, assume that you know that Warren lives in San Angelo, which is "just around the corner" in West Texas terms. Not volunteering him for working on the car but the man is a genius on cars and if you could get it near where he is when you have a question bet he could give you some ideas. Lived in El Paso years ago and driven through all that area many times. There is nothing in most of the area and an awful lot of it to boot! :) Joe A |
You will not go wrong with Imagine Auto. Stephen Kaspar is the owner and he is a turbo wizard! He is one of the national tech reps for PCA and writes in Pano. Plus, he is a great guy who is very generous with his time and knowledge.
If you need any assistance while in KC, don't hesitate to ask. JA |
Many moons ago I was traveling from NJ to Vermont in my 78Sc. I needed fuel and stopped after my 4 plus hour drive. Shut the car down and hit the head. My travel companion tried to move the car for me and stalled it. When I restarted the car...it sounded like a coffee grinder. Alas, the dreaded chain tensioner I was warned about. Long story short the car was flatbeded to the local dealer and was looked at on monday morning, 2 days later. Fired right up, no noise. They explained that the tensioners can collapse [ like from a stall ] and when they cool down work again..but I should drive home carefully and have the tensioners replaced. So, maybe this is your warning!!

What happened?

yeah, what did happen?

Wow!
Year old thread...given new life.. Interesting story. Can't wait to hear how it all pans out!
Love this board and all you Pelicans!! SmileWavy |
I got the car back a little over a month ago. The case along with many other things was ruined too and it took 5 months to find another one. I got the K-27hfs and a fabspeed muffler to go with a complete rebuild. It runs like a champ to say the least. There is a significant increase in power obvious to all the people who knew the car before and have had rides in it now. One guy said it is like some crazy video game come to life. The paint job with the rain gutter delete is top nothch. The entire scenario was not pleasant but it is now history.
|
How about some pics with the new paint and gutter delete to complete the story :)
|
Wow, thats not how I thought it would end.
Why did it get like that? What made the case ruined? |
That is a crappy way to charge a battery... I hope it works out OK. edit: whoops! I guess it did work out O.K. - I wasn't even a Porsche owner when this thread was started...
