Fabspeed muffler bypass
Has anyone tried the Fabspeed muffler bypass alone hooked up to the stock catalytic converter on a 3.2 engine with Stock HX's and Cat?
What's the opinion on sound and performance? I would also think about getting the Catbypass as well after that so any experience/opinions on the combination. I've been to the site and heard the sound clips but want to hear from first hand experienced users. Gost

The bypass pipe takes the place of the catalytic converter, so how would one use both at the same time??? Maybe I am misunderstanding you. For the record, I have the bypass pipe and love it. Only issue was with new gaskets from Fabspeed. They didn't fit and they were not cool about it over the phone. Search this forum and you will find plenty of info on them.... -Chris

It is very nice. Mine fit well and I ordered copper gaskets which also fit well. The sound is deeper and slightly louder which is perfect. Cheap too!!!!

Hey Chris, Fabspeed makes a mufflerbypass pipe alone that hooks up to your existing Cat therefore eliminating the muffler completely for $50 and that's what I was refering to. The catbypass (euro pre-muffler) is in addition to the muffler bypass so the 2 together eliminates the muffler completely and the constrictive stock Cat.
Rick, is your set up the catbypass and mufflerbypass together or one only of either one. I'm interested in the muffler bypass right now. Souk, Now I'm a bit confused. Thanks for the post link it was good info. I called fabspeed myself today and was told that the Catbypass is one and the same as a Euro pre-muffler. The way I understood it is that there is no seperate component from the two...it's one piece...call it what you like. This is from Joe Fabiani's mouth to my ears. Am I mistaken...again?

Oops... I am just referring to the cat bypass... I would think the muffler bypass would be really loud... But for $50, its worth a look... Let us know...

Rick, no louder than having the catbypass as well. In fact it would probably be a tad quieter than the Cat/muffler bypass together because of the more constrictive stock Cat. I have one coming next week and will let you guy's know how intrusive or how sweet it is!

Jeff, Yup I've heard it over and over. Probably won't sound exactly like that but it does sound tough. Not sure if it was with the catbypass as well, it's not clear on the clip because it's labeled as the video for both.
Bought one that was used 1 day from a rennlist member for $25. Can't lose for that price and can add it to the catbypass if I ever get one. Chris, we all lose our way then and again, as long as we get to the promised land eventually....Amen...hehe!

I put on a muffler bypass with everything else stock on my 3.2 when I first got my car two years ago....It sounded really aggressive and LOUD. Didn't really feel any performance gain, but the car sounded like it gained 100 hp ![]() I liked it for about a month. Got tired of it. I now have a Fabspeed premuffler and Bursch muffler. Sounds great!

I'm using the original cat and the fabspeed tip on my 85 for track days. Its loud and sounds a bit like a Camaro but losing all the muffler weight from the very back of the car is the benefit for me. Its too loud to drive to work in my opinion but on the track is fine. Have tried a straight test pipe instead of the cat and its unbearably loud.

I"m going to find out soon. On the fabspeed clip it did not sound too loud and actually sounded nice to me. Sound/loudness is a subjective thing and I've always liked loud. All my performance vehicles including motorcycles got custom exhaust/headers the first chance I had. I think I must have finagled my way up to the Marshall stacks at too many rock concerts when I was....well...I still do it and suffered some slight hearing loss because I like LOUD! As I mentioned earlier it's a Cab and my top is alway's down with the Chili Peppers crankin through my 300watt amp so I won't notice the exhaust as much as a quiet person in a coupe. Hey the way I see it for $25 bucks it's worth a try and I can alway's go back to stock. Besides I'm told that the freakin stock muffler weighs like 70lbs or there abouts and I won't miss that. I think I'll try to fab my own pre-muffler and muffler this winter as a project and see what I come up with. Have you seen an opened up muffler? Nothing much in them. Just need the right tools and some creative patience. I have access to a good machine shop to fab the parts which helps a ton. We'll see.

I put the muffler bypass on last night, connected to my stock cat and it was way too loud for the street. I was surprised and thought it would be a tad quieter than the fabspeed video on their site, which I confirmed was with both the cat and muffler bypass installed with stock HX's. I guess their cat bypass has a higher muffling capacity than the stock cat. I will now be looking to pick up a second hand FS cat bypass or just get a new one. Does anyone know if I can re-use the existing O2 sensor or do I have to get a new one. Don't want to part with the $ 160 for a new one. I think I remember seeing something about a universal cheapo sensor on this forum. I have to find that or if anyone has a link handy I'd appreciate it.

I found a o2 senser on ebay for 40-or 50.00, fits fine with no problems. I cant think of the company now, but if you search, you will find.

That beats $160 any day. Did you have to modify it in any way? Comes with 3 wires but only use 2 that sort of thing?

No, it had three wires on it with shrink tubes for them, no modifications at all. If I can find the company, Ill post it later tonight.

I found one at a local parts store for $50 a universal Walker 3 wire part # 250-2300 in stock. I will get it because I think mine is original and the idle is a tad rough even after a complete service so it makes sense to do.
