Crankcase overpressure?
I have a 76 with a 2.7 that is "puking" big dollops of oil from the oil tank into the cis air box via breather tube that connects air box to oil tank filler neck. This doesn't happen at idle, but man, when it has a bit of throttle applied, you can watch it happen. I've verified that the breather system is unrestricted back to the vent on the front of the motor. Did a compression and leak down test - comp #'s were all 135-145 (cold) and leak down test found two cyls at 12%, all others at 5-6%. I want to call this broken rings somewhere but the leak down numbers don't seem high enough to produce the fore mentioned effect - does anyone see this differently or have any input as to possible other causes? thanks all

Overfilling the oil can cause this.

With the oil filler cap removed and the engine revved, can you observe a lot of smoke/blowby (combustion gas) excape from the filler tube? If so, under load, there'll be more.
If the oil level is okay, then it could be some weak or broken compression rings in those cylinders. How many miles? How long with the thermal reactors on the heat exchangers before the changeover to regular HEs? Or do you stil have them? Sherwood |
