Vintage race car color

Does anyone know for sure the color of white used on all the vintage era Porsche race cars. 906,908,917, 911R. I believe it was light ivory #6604 but I'd appreciate confirmation. I want to make sure my porject gets the right color. Thanks in advance.

I think the color code was 111. That is what the 911R's were so I assume the other race cars were the same.

Ernie, This is where I'm running into a conflict. Everything I find says color code for 65-68 Light Ivory is # 6604. I know that is the color but the code is what's not clear. Thanks RK

color coding

The two figures 66 denote the 1966 color range.
The figures 01-09 are standard production colors in the range concerned.
slate gray 6601
polo red 6602
gulf blue 6603
light ivory 6604
bahama yellow 6605
irish green 6606
sand beige 6607
aga blue 6608
black 6609 plus 22 special colors.

The 911R was a 1968 model, thus the color code for light ivory in 1968 is 6804

Light Ivory color

I recently repainted my '67S back to it's original Light Ivory color. It turned out to be a bit of a challenge to get the color right but in the end I found an easy solution I'll decribe at the end of this note. First, keep in mind that there is both a color "number" and a color "code". The color code for light ivory is 131. But that won't get you the correct color. You'll need to use the color number. For light ivory that number changed over the early years. For 1965 it's 6404; for 1966-67 it's 6604; for 1968-69 it's 6806; for 1970-73 it's 1110 for Targas and 1111 for coupes. The color code remained 131 throughout these years. The plate showing the paint code number is located on the left door hinge post. The painter I worked with, Freddie Hernandez, prefers to use PPG two stage paint. (Base coat/clear coat) rather than the original German paint. The paint shop was unable to find the paint number (6604) so we started trying to match old paint from parts off my car and friends' cars. The match wasn't looking right. Finally we tried paint number 1111 - light ivory for a '73 coupe, and bingo...we got a perfect match. It turns out it's now a Ford color with the code "DBC8321" - "Ford White". It turned out beautifully and is an almost perfect match to a friends original paint light ivory '67S. If you're not hung up on using the original German paint I suggest using this PPG color. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Good luck,
Richard
