Front liscence plate

Do you really have to have it on?

Anybody getting away with not having one?

I live in Texas.

Where would you mount it if you had a center mounted oil cooler?

Don't know about Texas, but I've not run a front plate here in Ohio for over four years. They tell me they'll pull me over and fine me $60 if I'm "cought", but nobody here seems to bother. (It probably helps that the surrounding states don't have front plate rules, so if they see me coming, they might think I'm from Indiana or Kentucky.) I suppose if I'm pulled over for speeding, they'll write me up for the lack of front plate, too.

Texas, however....I'd imagine they'd shoot you if you don't have a front plate. They shoot everybody in Texas...

The only time I tried it in New York, I got pulled over in the first 30 miles. No ticket, but a warning...

I have a center-mounted cooler behind an IROC air dam/bumper unit, and I mount the license on the front of the bumper, above the cooler.

Probably what I'll have to do... after I get my first warning.

Do you have a picture Stephan?

I've put 5000 miles on mine in California with no plate and no problems...yet. Heck, I even got a speeding ticket with a laser from the front and the guy didn't pop me for the missing front plate.

I've been ticketed twice in Texas for not having a front plate.

To be more specific, I've been ticketed twice in Houston. I've been pulled over many times and ticketed for speeding in other parts of the state, and the troopers didn't seem to care about the missing front plate.

In CT, they have changed the rule 3 or 4 times from yes to no and now it's yes, we need one. None of my cars have ever had one, and I have been pulled over 24 times over the years, and gotten about a dozen tickets, none have mentioned the lack of a plate. # weeks ago was my last chat with an officer.

I think it is VERY regional/officer specific.

On my 914 I have the 916 front with the oil cooler in the trunk. I plan to follow the advice of a friend. Put the front license plate under your seat with some make shift bracket. If (or when) you get pulled over and if they ask about the front plate, say you are missing a piece of the front bracket and it is being shipped from Germany. It has worked with him for years.

If the cops want to give you a ticket, they will independant of your front plate.

In NY, the only time I got ticketed was when I was parked - I had used the "it's broken, and pieces on their way in" line for a while before that, successfully.

Now I mount it, but it's basically horizontal, facing the ground. screw them.

Sorry for going OT but...

Strother, from what I can see from that tiny little pic of your car, she looks beautiful. Do you have a link to better pics or can you post some? Your car deserves a closer look by us, the masses.

My co-driver got a ticket in Texas several months ago, in the Vanquish S that Aston Martin had given me for the week. There was neither a front nor rear license plate, only a plaque in place of the rear plate that read "Vanquish S," since the car had come straight from the LA Auto show. Highway Patrolman either never noticed or didn't care.

I had 10 minutes earlier had the car at an indicated 165. My friend got the ticket for 68 in a 55.

I got a ticket in CA for no front plate, in a toyota pickup. The cop was sitting roadside at the end of an exit ramp, specifically looking for front plates and waiving over anyone who didn't have one.

He told me CA was cracking down on front plates, that was a couple years ago.

I got a ticket last week driving in from a track day (took the plate off to let more air into the front air-dam oil cooler). $109

I've since found out that you just have to display the numbers, so am getting an airbrush artist friend of mine to airbrush the front license onto the oil cooler grille in the next couple of weeks.

I think I'll feel out the waters here to see what goes. I'll carry the plates with me until I get caught. I'm sure I'll get asked when I go through the gates to the air force base in the morning.

Now I just have to decide on an oil cooler to go under the bumper. I'm thinking the COM oil cooler from Setrab on the large end or maybe just the 915 on the smaller. The 915 is less than half the cost of the COM.

Any feelings on this subject, Chuck?

I don't have a front plate on my P-car either and haven't been stopped yet (knocking on wood). My VW on other hand has a front plate and that is the car I get a speeding ticket in of all the things.
