Vibration at 1600rpm

Has anyone experienced this? What to check first?

74' 911 2.7

Right at 1600rpm on normal take-off, I get a vibration/rumble from the rear. If I take off in traffic, low rpm and after clutch is engaged, I can feel/hear it.

It just started, doesn't seem to be getting worse. The only mods have been short shift kit.

Am I just now noticing something that has always been there? Am I launching too low RPM's???

Thanks,

???paul???

Cool Low RPM Vibration.....

If your car still has one of the rubber center clutch discs, a chunk of rubber might have come out and gotten lodged on one side of the pressure plate. I had this happen on a 1988 924S. The fix is a new clutch.

Good Luck!

I did replace the disk with a spring type when I had the engine out last time.

Thanks,
Paul

Scott,

I'll have to get him to drive it to get his oppinion. I just don't remember that vibration being there before. But, I always took off at about 2500 to 3000 rpm. It' just when my daughter is riding with me, I like to really take it easy. I know, I know... These cars arn't meant to be taken easy.

No, tires are ordered but not mounted yet. I have been struggleing with the idea of having the rims polished by AL REED first. But then, I've been told that is not the best idea as the polish is only good for about a year or so. I think I will have the rims cleaned and repainted back to stock.

What do you think?

Paul

By-the-way

What is the best rpm to take off at? Under normal traffic conditions?

Too high... wearing clutch
Too low... lugging engine

What to do to die today?

Good price and seems to be a good tire.

I use about 1,400 to 1,500 or so and tend to get a little shudder from the clutch but the car comes off of a dead stop easily that way. Doesn't seem to be a big deal.

I'm off the clutch completely by the time I feel the vib/rumble.

Still not sure what I'm feeling/hearing.

Chain tensioners are rebuilt and added the collar.

Maybe I'll just replace everything connected to the gas cap.
