Just another ..... newbie

Looks like this is the popular time of the year to "go active" from being a lurker. Soooooo here goes, hope the picture works. This is the ride - a close to stock '79 930 - waiting for the upgrades. (Reliability upgrades first - who wants to punch a hole in a piston?):) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1120455952.jpg

Big hello to all Porsche-philes out in the ether!

pa911 07-03-2005 09:53 PM

Great looking 930 Porsche!

kycarguy 935 07-03-2005 10:05 PM

Beautiful 79 930 you have there and welcome to the forum.

Hayabusa 07-03-2005 10:10 PM

Wow, Peter, that is a great looking 930. Is the interior red? Are you looking to rebuild it right off?

Welcome. SmileWavy

adomakin 07-03-2005 10:11 PM

Alrite Peter, what sort of mods are you thinking?

Peter,

Welcome. As you probably know, one picture is just not enough so more pictures please.

Thanks guys.

I guess I have to start w/more cooling on demand as I am going to Florida in the near future. Don't know if a Carrera w/fan will be enough for down there. Maybe, two wheel well coolers (if I stick w/the stock valence) or some combo w/a spoiler mounted central. I really am not eager to cut the tub.

As for the dream; got to start w/a K27 7200 or maybe that HF I think Imagine sells. Twin plug (crank) + EFI (looking to see what happens w/350HP930). Cams - can't decide between SC-like grind or 964. And maybe later a displacement upgrade. You know how this sort of stuff goes. I do want something streetable, but lurking for ricers.

This doesn't address brakes etc. because I don't know what will overwhelm the stocks. And I am undecided about going to a G50.

peter,
what does it have for aux cooiling now? trombone? 28-row brass? surely it has some aux oil cooler? i would think a single carrera cooler with fan would be enough for street. i hear elephant also sells finned oil lines. sweet car, btw.

nice wish list peter, as for the cooling, you could get yourself a dirty great intercooler, take advantage of the 'free' hp and get some cooling going on too. (as long as you don't up the boost to take advantage of that cool air!) the finned oil lines are nice, how about replacing your xisting factory cooler for a larger unit?

Hayabusa: Sorry about the photography - too much light. The interior is tan. I am going to do the changes one at a time for things that can be bolted on. Any major engine out/machining like 350hp930 will have to be done all at once.

big & adomakin: The car has a 28 row currently and a Kokeln long-neck IC. (Also a B&B header/exhaust system.) My thinking is that a single carrera cooler may not be enough margin for occasional track use in addition to the street which I'd like to do. Besides all the drivers down there do 80mph on the freeway! As for a full width IC - want to keep the "cooler-than-ambient" air conditioning for now. It's Florida!;)

Chris: Unfortunately I am stuck in Santa Barbara right now, and car is in Redlands.:( It's the only picture I have. Car is at da family and they are so computer inclined they were going to buy another compact flash card for their dig camera because the first one is full:rolleyes:
But hey, I'll be done in a few weeks and maybe I can make it to one of the SOCG runs before I take off to FL.

Anyone know a reasonable wrench in the Riverside, CA area? I just need some basics done - like an oil change, and no facilities to do it at da fam.http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/ear.gif

Thanks again for all your kind words.

Without a doubt, Precision Motion. Porsche only and very straightforward and honest:

1177 Ardmore St, Riverside, 92507 - (951) 784-0425

If you need a ride back to Redlands...I work nearby at Loma Linda University, so no sweat.

Do you plan on driving from Redlands to Santa Barbara anytime soon? If so, I could use a ride there to pick up a car I bought recently but haven't had time to get.

Welcome to Pelican!

Gumba11 07-04-2005 11:15 PM

We always need another Porsche on the SOCG runs. I have one planned for the 30th of July right now. However, due to the fact you have a 930, you will running toward the front of the line :D .
