Factory alarm question

Does anyone know what kind of alarm is installed on a 1986 3.2 (ROW)?
I have this lock in my door near the locking mechanism, and I have the key for it.
Is this part of the factory alarmsystem?
Is the alarmsystem linked to the DME box?
I'm thinking of installing an alarm on the car that I'm buying but if the factory alarm is still there and working then I don't need to do this.
How does this alarm work exactly?
Explanations, scanned manuals, everything will do for me.

Thanks in advance,

The lock in the door is a part of a factory system. You can't just disconnect the lock since the car "looks" for a certain resistance from the lock to start. The factory alarm will set off a horn and disable your ignition if set off. It was pretty high tech for 1986. There are better systems out there today but putting a new alarm on old wiring can cause issues and frankly, the car is history if someone wants it bad enough. Get lojack and good insurance.
