Question First gear pops out on hard start

I recently had my clutch redone on my 79 SC.

Now when I do a quick start, the rear tires spin (which is an improvement, the clutch was spining before!), the rear wheels bumps up and down and the gear lever pops out of first gear!!!

This is really anoying!

Is the rear wheel up and down bumping normal?
Is there a way to stop this?

What can I do to make the gear lever stay in forst gear?

Thanks for sharing your related experiences.

wfbal, it is your car, but it is not recommended to spin your tires with a P-car. It is an expensive exercise.....

I'll agree with the first response.

DO NOT drop your clutch so hard and at so high an RPM that your wheels spin on this car. Because of the weight over the rear wheels and the rear weight transfer, these cars have a LOT of grip during hard acceleration. If you actually apply enough torque to the drivetrain to cause the wheels to spin then you are subjecting the transmission and clutch to much higher loads than it was designed for. This car was never designed as a drag racer. It was designed to be fast and nimble. To treat it as a drag racer is to invite major damage to the drivetrain.

The up and down movement of the wheels you describe is called wheel hop and it is about the most violent result of wheel spin and will likely result in some major damage.

Ease up on the hard launches off the line and you'll be fine.

Actually, this happen when I launche the car a little bit harder than normal driving!
I'm not droping the clutch when the engine is reving high

I'm starting to wonder if my wheels are really spinning, maybe it is the transmission which bumps up and down!!?

Could worn engine/gearbox mounts cause this?
