Mounting Door Mirrors
I am planning to replace the flag morrors on my 83 SC with the chrome rectangular 74-76 (?) side mirrors. I haven't received the mirrors yet biut want to prep. the doors. Can anyone tell me if I need to close any or all of the current mounting holes or wil the new mirror cover these?
Thanks - Chris

I am mounting these Vitaloni mirrors to replace the flags....
We had to close all the mounting holes, as the base is much smaller. I would think the same applies for your new mirrors... |

Nice mirrors. Love to see some pics with them mounted. Were they used on any of the early 911 racers or ?
I think your probably right on closing the hole but I'm lookiung for the definitive answer and hoping to get off easy for a change. Thanks - Chris

Thanks! We overlapped the mounting of these mirrors with the existing holes and there was no way they'd cover them all...
This is a pic of those mirror on a 934....

The later SC and up doors have four large holes to accommodate the flag/aero mirrors. The early rectangular mirrors will NOT cover these holes. You will need to go to earlier doors or have a bodyshop weld in plates to cover up the large holes, fill/shape and paint.
Take your existing flag mirrors off by removing the single hex bolt (this bolt is on the side of the mirror facing the fixed vent windor and may be covered by a black plastic plug), Once you remove the mirror, you will see how large the mounting holes are and why an early mirror will not even come close to covering them. I bought a set of BMW 320i mirrors to replace the aero mirrors on my "early" 911 with late doors. These mirrors are very similar to the '74-'76 mirrrors that you would like to mount on your doors. I took the aero mirrors off and positioned the chrome mirrors over the four large holes - the bases on the chrome mirrors don't cove close to covering the existing holes on my doors. The new chrome mirrors are for sale. Is my reply "definitive" enough for you?

Chris,
I decided to move my mirror project further down the "to do" list. I just bought Rennline's battery relocation/cut-off kit. They were at the Hershey Parade swap meet and offered a price I could not pass up. You can go broke on good deals.
