Throwout bearing question
Hi all,
Before I sift through all the archives (have a long drive in the morning). I just noticed what sounds like my throwout bearing growling. I can hear it clearly when the car is in neutral with the clutch out. My question is: Am I in immediate trouble, or will it just make noise? This is a 71 T with the 911 transmission. I was under the impression that the PO had work done on the clutch not long ago. Like I said I have drive tomorrow so I want to know if I should be worried. Thanks for any input.

It could also be your pilot bearing (roller bearing on the crankshaft-transmission input). Depending on how it fails you could loose the ability to engage/disengage the pressure plate. What will happen if the TO bearing gets bad enough it could break the clutch fork. Mine was squelling really bad for about 5000 miles before I got time to replace. It only squelled when I let out the clutch.

Thanks-
I'm hoping that since I just started hearing it, that I have a little time before something bad happens. Summer is short enough without loosing drive time.
