Random Cam question for 3.2 SS...
Who here has experience with which cams to use on a 3.2 SS? I am wondering which cam on this type of motor would produce a top heavy high HP powerband similar to a two liter 'S'?
GE80? GE100? |
if it helps: i have GE80's in my MFI 2.7 and love them - pretty good punch down low, magic about 4000rpm

Hmmm...Wayne's book says that cams have markedly different characteristics depending on displacement. I'd bet that GE80 would be a torque monster in a 3.2. I do like the sound of that magic though...

The GE80 (my DC80) is good for a 2.7 to 3.2 litre engine. I have had good results changing the lobe centers (104 instead of 100) for bigger displacement engines instead of moving up the the DC100 cams.
Give us some more info on your combination... |
I am just game planning my next move. I want to pull the numbers matching motor out of my '69S in the next year. I'd never forgive myself if I holed the case. I am trying to figure out a powerful combo that won't eat my 901 tranny in 1st and 2nd. This is the basis of the question regarding a high strung 3.2 short stroke.
If I can keep the low down grunt to levels of a 2.4 or 2.7 while putting all of the kick at and above 5000 RPM, I figure this combo would be a fun one to run. I figured with the 3.2L displacement and a 70.4mm crank, I could build a hot motor that will rev to 8000RPM reliably if properly prepped. With billet intermediate and side plates, I imagine I could end up w/ a reliable and entertaining combo. |
