That was probably part of the wiring harness burning.

Disconnect the battery cables and do not put them back on until you find the problem.

Check the wiring that P AG cleverly installed with NO fuses first.

ONE MORE TIME:

Disconnect the battery cables immediately and do not put them back on until you find the problem.

porsche automotive group, no?

my fresh air fan burned out last summer, filling the cabin with smoke. easy replacement.

for a quick check of other possibly burnt wires, just pull out the tach and speedo. you can get a really good look at the wire harness inside the dash. and if you see crusty burnt insulation, trace that wire into the loom, and make sure that it did not overheat any other wires. the power going to my clock/glove box light toasted a couple of other wires, but as far as i could tell, nothing fatal came of it. i just cut back the tape wrap on a couple of sub harnesses, patched up the other melties, and taped it all back together. your results may vary.

Could it be the gas from the aircon (if fitted) escaping suddenly?

well, maybe - but this is a known problem area

the wiring harness is spendy, maybe NLA, and a lotta lotta labor

I had some idiots at a shop not bolt the battery back down after they had it out - nearly cost me mine.

If you're lucky it burned itself out in time to stop current flow or is just a blower or something cheap -- but be sure.

thks if i remember correctly, it was a white smoke but i didnt have a burn smell, like a normal smell would occur when wires or plastic is bu rning thats what had me thinking....if it is the blower where is it, is it in that cube in the trunk by the gas tank??, is it made by BEHR?
