Big 356 Concours in Dana Point this Sunday July 10

Guys,

There is going to be a huge 356 Concours in Dana Point this Sunday, the 10th. Supposedly there are to be over 100 356's there. To quote the e-mail I received from the local PCA region, "...the 912 Registry, Early 911 and R Gruppe will all have their own displays in addition to a number of special interest Porsches." Parking for those of us who arrive in non-356 Porsches will be in a special area on the lawn and admission is $20 for you and the car if you belong to the PCA. There will be food and a bar set up, I've heard.

This sounds like a lot of fun. I'm going. Anybody else?

(Thanks for the fix, Jack.)

Hmmmm, the wife is driving my daughter to summer camp on Sunday, maybe my son and I can sneak out for a few hours.
Now to come up with an alibi.........
Do you think a 6 year old can keep a secret?

For you, Scott, and all the rest, it's "concours." No E. A concourse is the major public area at an airport or large arena. Also, in architecture, a large covered area, especially one that uses columns.

I'm not trying to be a dick here...............well, sometimes I don't have to try, it comes naturally. But, we should say that correctly, especially while at the event.

You don't want to be a "concourse" weenie.

Sam, just don't piss of the 356 gods. Some of those guys are pretty serious. I'll be there with the Ragamuffin out on the lawn (if it makes it) with the Early S Registry and R Gruppe guys and gals. So, you know I don't take it seriously.

Call it whatever you like. The whole term is concours d'elegance. Some kind of Franch talk.

There ya go, it's french

I don't piss off the 356 guys much, that's mikey's job.
Plus the only guys I really know who have 356's are Mike Zois and Kevin Van fleet.
Kevin's good as gold, Mikey.... well you know Mikey.

If I make it I'll try and sneak into the Early S and R-gruppe areas and say hello. Reminds me of sneaking into the pits at speedway.
"Hay, what're you doing here? You don't belong here, go away before I call security."

I'm gonna try to make it early(ish) 0800.
Did anyone go last year? How was the turnout?
Will other marques be represented? eg Ferrari etc? or is this a Porsche only concours?

Name tags with screen names, or at least PCA badges would be nice.
I can't tell you how many times I have met someone at a Porsche event and had long converation with them, only to wonder who the heck they were afterwards. i hate that.
That's why all my friends are named Pal, or Ace, or Turbo, or what ever else i can think of when on the spot
My wife knows that when we are together and we meet someone she has to introduce herself right away so the other person will introduce hisself or herself. If she waits for me to do it, it might not happen.

I know Scott and most of the SOCG, I've met Zeke once that I can remember so i think I'm covered there.
I know Cristian and Paul of the R-gruppe, maybe they can smuggle me in.

I'm headed to the airport in a few minutes to catch a flight out to Orange County for the weekend. Wolfturbo is letting me drive one of the his RS cars to the event. So look for me with a Viper Green or Red RS. Should be a fun weekend.

This is what I got in a PM:

Take 5 Freeway south. Traveling past Mission Viejo and San Juan Capistrano, exit at Pacific Coast Highway on the right, heading north. Proceed through two sets of stoplights to Dana Point Harbor Drive, and turn left. Proceed a short block and turn right onto Street of the Park Lantern up the hill towards the Laguna Cliffs Marriott. Can't miss.
