Hey everyone. Thanks to those of you who helped me in the topic " Found a 1968 911T...buying tips?" found here
Well first of all, lets start out with that its not a 68. Its a 1970. The seller apparently gave us the wrong year. Also, it is manufactured by karmann. The vin number is 9110123315. As can be read in the old topic, the engine was in the front seat in addition to several parts. The price came out to $500 for it. We have started teardown of the car. We are removing everything in the fashion of a ground up restoration. We still have not decided whether to part it out, or restore to factory specs. The newest things we know (after buying wayne's lifesaving books..thanks wayne!! ![]() The major engine parts we are missing are the cylinders, cylinder heads, cam towers, and one carb. The through bolts are bent and will need to be replaced. We will need to replace both floor pans, as we found some major rust and soft areas. We removed the trunk lid, hood, winshield, rear window, and several interior trim pieces. The seller said he found another box of parts and will give it to us soon. Once i get that i will post a more complete listing of our current part status. Can someone tell me more about the karmanns? Also where can I find the engine number considering its disassembled. Also there is a code on the karmann door tag. I will get that and post it. Are there any other codes on the car (option, color etc) , if so where can i find them? Can somebody decode the vin incase my decode was incorrect? Also I think this car has been repainted at some point because the karmann tag has been sprayed over with the current orange color. All help would be appreciated. Thanks ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ...Ill have more pics and info as i get it...

Also i think we found all 6 pistons with wrist pins and several rockerarms today... One of our biggest concerns down the road after the engine is the electrical system... I need to find wiring diagrams and more info so i can reinstall it after the engine and body are complete.

I am not an early car man, so I will leave the detailed questions to the early car men. I just wanted to mention that it being a 70 makes it a long wheel base car, generally more desirable than the short wheel base 68 and earlier cars. They tend to handle better with the long wheel base.
Unless you are set on a concours restoration / all original, you should consider upgrading to a larger displacement engine. Very common / fun mod. I think sadistic is correct, since you get your son to help. If nothing else, this will teach him NOT to take up projects lightly. Just make sure, as I had advised earlier, to make a sober decision if the car is too far gone or not, and you'll have a blast, either way - parting or restoring! George |

looks like a lot of work, but will be worth it once you get going and start seeing results.

Get that thing up high and assess the amount of rust it has. That will determine if it's worth redoing. If not worth it, strip everything you can off of it and sell it all.
Preferrably the car will be worth saving. If so, you are looking at a long road to hoe for you and your friends. The parts for sale forum here Pelican Parts and ebay will be your best friends. Get yourself some of the old manuals (Haynes, etc.) to help you out in addition to Pelican's parts CD if it's still available. You will have to just keep your eyes out continually for pieces and parts as well as sources to repair, replate refurbish, etc. things for the car as you go along. The cars are pretty easy to take apart and put back together. I'd suggest just buying a used engine (.2.L, 2.4L, or 2.7L) to put in the car rather than redoing the one you have and have the tranny gone through. g Chasing all the parts, etc. will be a long process. Hope you yound guys can keep focus, since it takes some time and resources to do it. I've been working on my '69 for a year and gofering parts and pieces for a few years. That's in addition to cleaning, restoring and otherwise redoing everything I get my hands on. Takes a lot of time to do it right. Plus I figure I'll have about $20K invested overall in mine in the end. That means I'll never let go of it, but that's what I wanted. Good luck.
