lateral movement?

I am rebuilding my brake calipers, and while I'm here I noticed a bit to much lateral movement of one of my rear hubs. Whats involved in resetting the bearing play?
Thanks,
Paul

Anyone; please?

Somehow, I think there's a "I don't want to go first" problem here. Many times I will post on a thread that has gone unanswered and all of a sudden the flood gates open.

The thing is here, I don't know all that much about the Carrera years. There are some subtle and not so subtle differences between those years and what I work on.

Anyway, for what it's worth, I don't think there should be any lateral movement on the hub. So, sit tight and wait for John Walker or any of the many who know exactly what is going on. I seem to remember this happening to someone else and there is a fix.

Thanks Zeke...Looks like nobody else has piped up.

Okay, I'll have a go...

I recently changed the bearings on my earlier car. I know there are some subtle differences. I had the same symptoms as you describe and it turned out that the bearings were beyond loose - they were completely shagged and failing fast.

For mine I had to get a 30mm socket and a bigass breaker bar... then I added another 2' of gal pipe for leverage! These are cranked on seriously tight! To loosen I used some penetrating oil and had to stand on the end of the bar... and jump! Tightening was the reverse, although I didn't "jump" to tighten.

It might pay to get to some advice on the state of your bearings.

There shouldn't be any slop. If you torque the nut to spec and there's still slop, replace the bearing.
