david,
if you have a timing light, i'd sure check the timing..could be too advanced. also, pull a couple of spark plugs and check to see what your mixture settings have been doing to your plugs..pulled mine a few days ago after leaning my mixture about a month back. i found that i was running too lean and returned my setting to where it was previously. also, i run 87 octane year round and have never ever heard pinging from my motor. THE ONLY TIME i ever did was when i was adjusting my timing and got it too advanced..that's where my money is on your problem. also i was very surprised you're running 30 weight as well..i run 10w40 in winter and 20w50 (all castrol) in the summer when i need the thicker oil viscosity at higher temps. come on, dave..check the timing..go with a good 'ol boy from arkansas' advice for a change..;) ryan |

nah..been wrenchin' on the p-car all night tonight..pulled the alternator to replace a worn out ground strap. decided to strip the housing and fan, primer, sand and paint them..metallic aluminum for the housing and gold metallic to match the car's color..plus new voltage regulator, inspect brushes (need to replace them this winter), new heater hoses from shroud to heat exchangers, general cleaning, etc. no broken knuckles and just a minimal number of hand scratches, so i must be getting better..or just not doing enough!
