65 coupe+No rust+Uncle Zak= What?
This car seems to be in amazing condition - even prior to all his work. I wonder how much he wants for the drivetrain??

It looks nice. Parts for SWB cars are hard to find, however: whomever buys it will have their work cut out for them obtaining all the original parts, many of which were one year only for a 303XXX chassis number.

I think our own Tom Tweed is a bidder. Good luck!

What is this about Zak's "credibility?" That sounds like a cheap shot and doesn't sound like you, Kevin. I have dealt with Zak as well and he has been most helpful. In fact, we had a long conversation about this very thing, getting slammed on Pelican. He has since left Pelican (that's what he told me) and deals elsewhere.

It was just a question, not a statement. I was partial party to a transaction that involved UZ and from what I was being told it was not a smooth transaction. I'm not trying to tarnish anyones reputation here. I'll remove my original post as a courtesy.

Zak has gotten me out of a bind in the past. Not a bad guy based on my experiences dealing with him as a buyer and seller.

the shell was dipped - that might be a problem...
I can say that not all of his transactions have gone smoothly - I don't know that he is to blame for that however. He does have a pretty decent rep. on Pelican and is a freindly person.

Why would dipping the shell be a problem, if done correctly?
It's not like any galvanizing or plastic coating would be removed, as there was none to start with. Certainly small stuff, like the "Kunstharzlack" plate could be dissolved if not removed, but presumably that was all taken off first?

The intent of this thread was to highlight what I saw as a good opportunity for some one to acquire a "good" early car from someone that appears to have passed the test of time in the early Porsche marketplace.
This was NOT an invitation to SLAM Uncle Zak. I am sorry if anyone felt that it was. Including Uncle Zak, if he happens to be lurking here. I think I am well enough known here to say that if I want to slam some one, there will not be a lot of subtlety involved. So, I hope this car goes to a good home, and I hope Uncle Zak is able to recoup some if not all of the sweat equity he has obviously invested in finding and taking this car to the point it is at today.. Zeke, could you pm me where he "deals" now. I've had a few great transactions with him and wouldn't mind buying a few more things from him in the future.

not a problem, if done correctly -- it's just the chance that it wasn't completely neutralized.. and rust is growing under the paint or powdercoat...
a few months ago, UZ was in West Eugene AFAIK, he's still there; think he has a store on eBay -- or just use google

I bought a 901/02 engine from Uncle Zak advertised on this forum.
Nine months after order, with down payment, promised delivery 1 month I got the engine. Dirty in side outside . Inlett manifold opened up with the manifold on the engine, therefore the heads were full of aluminium dust Delivered with T heads ,E camshaft ordered with S everything. Oilcooler missing The flywheel was rusted and needed to be resurfaced, clutch in such a state that it is only to throw away . The inlet manifold was so corroded that they have joined the clutch in the bin The crankcase was damaged by an earlier, probably broken rod,and has damaged the oilchannel. It may be possible to save this by welding. I also ordered front and rear swaybars for my 68 R clone. I got a 74 front swaybar and half the correct rear one. Also on order was rear M brakes with venitaled discs, I got M front calipers ,he replaced them with another set ,again front brakes ,in such a condition that I have thrown them away also I have written and phoned Unzle Zak a lot of times to try to sort something out of this ,but I get no answer at all. To ad insult to injury I have paid airfreigth and custom duty here in Costa Rica for all this mostly junk. Just my $ 5000 |

I have purchased several items from Zak via Pelican and ebay. He is a small businessman and a Porsche enthusiast and seems to stay very busy. He accidentally sent 2.7 heads with a 3.0 short block I purchased from him (dissassembled), and he made good by tracking down a set of 3.0 heads and sending them to me. It took some time and he can be difficult to reach, but he is a stand up guy who will help you out.
