Waste'n away due to Rita

So,

I got the mandatory evacuation notice to get out of Friendswood TX in the wake of Hurricane Rita, so I planned to leave the 21st in the afternoon. I planned to take both the 911 and the Explorer for the exodus to my parents farm in Shiner some 140 miles away (normal 2.25 hour drive). As a first indication of the day to come, I smelled gas in the garage in the morning. Sure enough the fuel pump was leaking gas around the electrical connector. Realizing that I had no time to fix it, I got the jack stands out and put the car up as high as possible, sealed it all up and put the cover on it. After a quick prayer over the car, it was off to the rest of the jobs to do to secure the house and get the hell out of Dodge.

We left at 4:00pm and ran into our first traffic within 30 minutes. It was a great 106degF humid Houston HOT afternoon, and stop and stop and stop and go traffic. I think the broken fuel pump saved the 911's life. After many re-routes and 11 hours later, I arrived at my folks at 3:00am. Now we wait. Looks like we will be on the clean side of the storm. The most important thing is my family is safe and sound. We will see if I will be looking on the used parts forum for another donor body for my engine...

After having to deal with 4 hurricanes last year all I can say is good luck and pay attention to the evacuation notices.
